Thread: WMA files – difference between Windows 10 Asset and Asset on Synology

WMA files – difference between Windows 10 Asset and Asset on Synology

I was using the trial Asset on my Windows 10 PC and decided to transfer my music files to a Synology NAS(DS220) running DSM 7. I am playing my music through a Cambridge Audio StreamMagic6 using the Cambridge App on my Android tablet.

I successfully installed Asset on the Synology(DSM 7)and uploaded some test files. Problem is that not all test files appear on my tablet but when I run Asset from my PC the files show. The missing files are WMA files. Is there a difference between the Windows version of Asset and the one that runs on the Synology NAS?

Microsoft only released the SDK (which decodes WMA files) on Windows.

Are these lossless WMA files? If so, just convert them to another lossless format, such as FLAC. Easy to do in batch manner, retaining file/folder organization, naming, tags, artwork, etc.

Thanks Spoon. Guess I have some work ahead of me!

They are lossless WMA's. Am converting them to WAV.

You might want to consider FLAC over WAV, otherwise you can expect your tag info to disappear.

Agree. And even if you get tags in your WAV files, not all servers/players handle them well. You will be much more future proof with FLAC. And these are all LOSSLESS formats, so there's no audio quality issue here.
