Thread: Flac 0 or flac 1?

  1. #1

    Flac 0 or flac 1?

Why is flac 5 standard? Does flac 0 or flac 1 not give better sound quality and is it not better for the dac or the processor, after all, less compression, less labor intensive?

there is no difference in sound quality based on flac compression. Flac is LOSSLESS. All flac files are decoded to same exact file for playback. It takes a bit more processing power to compress the file size more (eg 8 vs 1) but that is only for the initial encoding. For subsequent decoding (i.e. Playback) the processing power is essentially identical regardless of initial compression.
