    Forcing a flac re-encode

    Hi,
I'm currently trying to tidy my flac music library and have found some albums that have very large image files >2MB inside each flac file. I have reduced these to less than 200K but found that no matter what editor I use the file size doesn't diminish. I think the area I've saved gets marked as padding. Is there a way to force a re-encode so that the file size shrinks down?

    Thanks

    Bob.

Have you tried just converting FLAC to FLAC using batch converter?

No I have not, It never crossed my mind that I could do that. Do you know that works or are you just suggesting an idea?

    Thanks.

By far the easiest way (if you have foobar 2000) is to select all the files and right-click Utilities and then Optimize file layout.

You can even save more space by using Optimize file layout + minimize file size, but note any further changes to tags will be slower because there is no padding at all with this option.

Yes, I do have Foobar 2000 but. I didn't know it could do that.
Thanks for that, really interesting, I'll give it a go.
