Ripping Speed cannot be lowered, Maximum is the only allowed value

    Hi there,
I'm happily using dbpoweramp since years now under W10. With 17.3 I've encountered a CD-Ripper Problem. The "Ripping Speed" dialog is still offered but the offered value is always "Maximum" on all of my three devices. Ripping process is starting slow and is increasing from track to track and finally ends successful.
With Release 16.x I was able to set the speed down to 4x on the same three drives, Plextor CD-R Premium2 in an USB case, Liteon iHAS624 B, Asus BC-12D2HT.

    Any idea what happened?

    Regards, Horst

Uninstall r17 and reinstall r16 from here as a test:

I do not think it is dBpoweramp, as this code has not changed.

      Spoon,
you're right! Problem shows up with dmc-R16.3-Ref-Trial as well.
So, it must be related to the OS. I've disabled Defender Folder Protection already without success. If you have any hint how to nails this let me know.

      Thanks, Horst

The hardware has not changed in all this time?

Yes, since December 2019 I have a new PC. The Plexwriter is much older.
I noticed that the Registry entries for all drives contains RipSpeed value 0. Only for the Plexwriter2 it contains RipSpeedSecureBad 4 and RipSpeedSecurePass2 8
So I was at least able to adjust the speed after initial installation, right? Otherwise, the registry entry would not show it.

If the dialog only says maximum it is unlikely the drive will accept any speed alteration. The request for drive speeds and setting of drive speed is hardware dependent, a different controller can stop that working correctly.

                Spoon,
i've found it - Under CD Ripper Option->Communication "Windows Internal" was selected. Both SCSI Pass Through options allows to set Ripping Speed!

Correction: Only option "SCSI Pass Through (SPT)" leads to reduced speed!

Good find, the SPT is the default mode unless CD Ripper cannot access the drive, so it chooses the internal, it must have been that to begin with.
