Distortion when converting lossless wma to wave

Sorry if this has been posted before.

CDs ripped to lossless wma format. Everything sounds just great.
When I later convert those files to wave for burning a "party" disk, the audio sounds louder and some distortion can be heard.
    What could cause this?

    Br,

Think it was my Nero Burning ROM that hit me from behind doing normalization
I'll try once more and get back.

It sure was Nero Burning ROM that ruined the music.
      Case closed.

Oh good. If it was not that, I would have suggested converting to flac, then burning. That's what I have to do every time one of my wmas produces something incorrect.
