Certain CDs have been created with pre-emphasis, it is down to the cd player to apply de-emphasis on playback, dBpoweramp will now do this when ripping.

The drive does not matter, it can be ticked for all drives.

Does CD Ripper warn you if a CD to be ripped has pre-emphasis or is a HD-CD?

The reason I ask is that after a lot of ripping, I have only now found the 'Track Technical' column which would show such information.

I am concerned some of my previous rips may have had pre-emphasis or be HD-CD, but these rips might not have been optimal.

HD CD is easy, the tracks will be saved as 24 bit. De-emphasis, a line will be written to the secure ripping log.

Best practices for HDCD may be ripping as normal CD, otherwise one is not creating a bit perfect copy of the CD. Then one can create a version modifed for HDCD (24 bit) to use as well. See this long thread for discussion of all this:

    Hi Spoon
Thanks for the good news. I have been waiting long for this de-emphasis function working directly with flac.
    1) Can you share the screen of cd ripper and show how this ripping works when using cd ripper?
    2) Can I apply de-emphasis to the flac files, which I ripped using cd ripper R16 and before?

    1) It is fully automatic
    2) Include the DSP de-emphasis and convert flac to flac.

    Thanks Spoon
    2) To decode flac file previously ripped from pre-emphasis CD, do I simply decode it selecting the file using batch music converter?
Does it detect pre-emphasis file from tag data or not (sometimes, there is a miss-detection in CD ripper track technical, so how to avoid miss conversion from normal file)?

You convert FLAC to FLAC with the dsp effect de-emphasis. Note if you include that effect then the process is always done, as there are no flags in files. You should only do this once.
