    Extreme large first track

    Hello all,

I am trying to rip The Byrds - Turn! Turn! Turn! [1996 Expanded Remaster].
The first track is supposed to have a duration of 3:53 but shows up in dBpoweramp with a length of 335:36:33. dBpoweramp also does show a hidden first track with a length of 62:08:16.
As far as I know there shouldn't be a hidden first track. Exact Audio Copy doesn't show the hidden first track and a normal length for the first track. The disc ripped perfectly with EAC, all tracks were ripped accurately.
I have never seen this before. I ripped hundreds of CD's with dBpoweramp including disc's with a hidden first track.
My question what's going wrong here? What's causing this ?

See below the screenshots for both dBpoweramp and EAC.

This CD has Copy Protection, switch the ripping method to 'defective by design', after ripping that disc, set back to normal.

The CD is from 1996 so I doubt it's copy protected. There's no mention of copy protection at all.
EAC ripped it perfectly without mention of a hidden first track and it does mention accurately ripped for all tracks with a confidence of 45 to 47. Cue tools is mentioning a confidence of 102/109.
I have eight other byrds cd's from the same series (1996-1997 remasters) and they didn't show any problems.

Track 1 can't be ripped with dBpoweramp with all 3 ripping methods (secure, burst and defective by design).
        The log does say:

The Log from EAC does say:

Strange is that with dBpoweramp the ripping of track 1 starts at sector 16777203.
With EAC is starts at 0.
See below the TOC of the extracted cd from the EAC log:

Try enabling the Prevent Detection of Hidden First Track option.

That doesn't work. Track 1 still appears with a length of 335:36:33

It's not a big deal as I have a good rip with EAC but I am just wondering why I can't get it ripped with dBpoweramp which is my preferred ripping software.

For the record: The rip (with EAC) plays fine. No audible errors.

Hmm, odd. What dBpoweramp platform/version are you running? Have you another optical drive you can try?

I use version 16.6 in combination with Windows 10.
I don't have an other drive available. I have this drive for a couple of months and ripped already many cd's with it. My previous drive was a ASUS DRW-24D5MT but the percentage of cd's that i couldn't rip was too high. The Liteon drive I have now ripped most of the cd's that i couldn't rip with the ASUS drive. So far I am happy with this drive.

dBpoweramp reads the TOC with a different ATAPI command to EAC (we ask for in LBA, eac asks for in minutes:seconds), I have seen a drive with buggy firmware give different tocs depending on which call is made, where obviously the same toc value should be returned.

Thank you very much for your answer Spoon.
So the disc is fine but it's the drive's firmware that's messing up ?
It doesn't appear to be a big problem as I ripped over 100 cd's with this drive and it's the first time that this problem occurs.
For these kind of problems it's good to have both dBpoweramp and EAC.
