    File Naming

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere on the a Forum.

I’ve just started ripping my CD collection to a NAS and have a problem. When a disc is ripped it is saving as artist, CD name and then the individual tracks and names when opened. All is ok until I rip a compilation CD as it then returns as “Various artists” in the folder name.

The problem is that I then get a “can’t save a folder with the same name” message. Any thoughts on how to address this issue please?

    Many thanks.

    What is your NAS?

Are you running Windows or OSX?

Why don't you copy & paste the naming string? It is just text.

CD Ripper >> Click 'Set' next to Naming.

At the top where it says 'Dynamic Naming', select it all with the mouse >> right mouse click on the blue >> copy

Then right click on a forum post >> paste

                      Re: File Naming

I hope this is allowed here. I'm going to paste my file naming string which has been carefully worked out with thanks to Spoon and the community here.

Non compilation albums are treated as Artist Name/Album Name/track - Title unless it's a multi CD set where it's discnumber-track - Title
Compilations go to a Various Artists folder as Various Artists/Album/track - artist - Title or disc-track - Artists - Title for multi CD comps. I find this works well for almost every album.

                      The text is:

                      [IFCOMP]Various Artists\[album]\[IFMULTI] \[disc]-[][track] - [artist] - [title][][IF!COMP][artist]\[album]\[IFMULTI]\[disc]-[][track] - [title][]

                      I hope this helps someone.

if you mean the odd "it&8217;s" instead of "it's", this is because you are likely posting from an iphone/ipad. I notice that when I try to post using my iphone/ipad, things like apostrophes and other symbols show up as a string of numbers/letters.

This is the only forum I post to where this happens. Not sure what the setting is on this forum software that could fix this. @spoon, any thoughts?

The forum disables an hash tagging, because spammers use it to change the font color and hide the spam post below what looks like a normal post. For some reason the iPhone posts ' as this embedded hash.

Odd apple does that. But I understand your logic.

                              Hi Folks,
One further question on Dynamic daming. Its almost impossible to create a single Dynamic Naming string for all circumstances, certainly a relativity straightforward one.
There appear to be many strings in my Naming dropdown list (probably historic ones I've created) See attached image.

Its not very easy to identify these strings in the list. Is there a way to prefix the string either with an annotation or some other means.
Or is the only option to keep these strings saved in another text file and we have cut and past each time.
I'm finding that really frustrating when I have to switch from Contemporary disc ripping to Classical ripping.

                              Hope someone can help
                              Regards
