dBpa sees one CD as another...

... And they probably ARE the same. My question is this...

I have Rush's "Permanent Waves" as a Mercury Atomic CD which I've ripped & I've just inserted a different version of the same album, which is a normal Mercury copy.

dBpa seems to recognise the CD because the interface has pre-filled with all of the stats & numbers that I assume are from the previous Mercury Atomic rip.

Can I therefore assume that the Mercury CD is completely identical to the Atomic one & there would be no benefit in ripping the normal Mercury one for purposes of comparison?

Rip and see what the CRC numbers are for each track, see if they match.

Okay, so the fact that it's already put the CRC numbers in doesn't necessarily means it's the same mastering?

No. Only if you proceed to rip the CD and when done all those previously filled in CRC numbers are green (meaning they match).

Thanks. I replied to this with screen shots a few hours ago, but they seem to be taking time to appear. I guess they need some moderating. Fingers crossed.

There, that's better. Must've been something in the security at work that blocked it.

Not that these screenshots really tell us anything except that they gave me peace of mind that the software could tell the difference between the CDs & that each CD got the same CRC numbers twice, which was quite satisfying.

    I've learned something, too.

    Oh, and nothing's green.

I think that's because there was an AR match in both cases. Without the AR match, if you ripped the same CD twice, and both rips were SECURE, then the 2nd rip would show the CRCs as "green" (matching those of the first rip of the CD).
