Encode on the fly with ogg?

Can one encode on the fly into ogg?

Also what is the suggested hardware config for encoding in real time for mp3 or ogg?

If ogg is free then why is it not on sourceforge www.sf.net

Any recc on how to clean up audio clicks and pops from records and tapes?

    Thanks!

    Kieran Mullen

(Why bother with more that one post whren I can put it all in one?

if you mean can you right click over a file to convert to ogg? yes.
or set up dmc audio cd input to auto rip to ogg upon cd insertion? yes.
you might have to explain further what it is you want.

suggestions will vary depending on your needs and future use of the music file itself. 2 good forums for discussing codecs is hydrogenaudio and audiosense.org

not all free software is on sourceforge.

some people use audacity. but it depends on your needs and budget.

I want to record from tape or record through and audio jack and have it encode to ogg on the fly.

I posted that quesiton for this software in particular

not all free software is on sourceforge.

I know. That was why I asked, but alas not the answer.

Audacity is free, however I didnt know it has filters in it to clear it up.

yes it can do that. use "auxiliary input" and it can be set up to record into whatever format you want.

any codec Spoon has made for his software is all good. the answer is still the same. choosing a codec depends on your needs. if you want archive quaility then you would look at flac and monkey's codecs. you could preserve them in that state then convert from the archive to whatever format you need it for. it could be needed for a specific mp3 player , so not all codecs will be suitable. like i said you need to be specific to what you want your music files covertet too and why. then it narrows down your options.
