Thread: Tag editor question - should I ask here?

Tag editor question - should I ask here?

    Hi,
sorry if this isn't the right place to ask but I've got a small issue with the tag editor that comes with dBpoweramp ripper.

Whenever I use it (usually to remove tags) it adds one itself "TRACKTOTAL". Is there any way to prevent this as it stops me using the useful menu addition.

    Thanks.

    Bob.

CD Ripper >> Green options button on tool bar >> CD Ripper Options >> Metadata and ID Tag 'Options' >> check 'Track number without track count'

Sorry, that option is already ticked.

Not sure if I've been clear, my problem is not with ripping discs, that works fine and does not give 2/9 but 02 which is great. My problem is using the right button tag editor. When removing unwanted tags with this tool, the tool adds TRACKTOTAL for some reason and its a bit of a pain to be honest.

    Thanks.

    Using Window or Mac?

I just tried a test, a fully tagged FLAC file on Windows >> rc >> edit id tags, I removed all the tags except artist, album and title, and that is all that is left in the file.

Machine is W7 and the files are on a Synology NAS.

Your post prompted me to look deeper and the deeper I looked the more odd things looked.

I tried again to just delete one tag, from all tracks in an album as I was doing yesterday.

However, All the tags I didn't want I deleted yesterday so I had to try deleting something else just for a test.

I right button clicked on an album folder and deleted albumartist.

Sure enough albumartist was gone but in some tracks on the album TRACKTOTAL appeared.

But why some and not others.

Had to look at the bytes inside the tacks to find out.

Seems some tracks originally had the hidden tags:
    TOTALDISCS
    TOTALTRACKS

Afterwards, TOTALDISCS was gone but TOTALTRACKS had become TRACKTOTAL.

It may be that the action is sensible but it is very confusing.

Only looking inside the tracks with a hex editor revealed this.

    Cheers,

    Bob.
