    Current version: R16.4 beta 7

    Download:

    <now released>

    Changes since R16.3:
    • Re-introduced remembering of window positions
    • Updated MP4/M4A codec with support for tagging files larger than 4 gigabytes
    • Improved behavior when converting low sample rate audio files to Apple AAC CBR.

    Changes in beta 2:
    • Dismissing ripping error/info log now returns to the CD Ripper window

    • Extended Apple AAC encoding options, added encoding to HE-AAC & HE-AACv2.

    Changes in beta 3:
    • Cleaned up Apple AAC options: allowed full 0...127 VBR quality range, improved bitrate estimation
    • Cleaned up FDK AAC options: correct VBR mode range for HE-AAC and HE-AAC v2, improved bitrate estimation
    • CD Ripper: fixed multi value tags not being recognized in some of the edit boxes
    • CD Ripper: added sort tag fields in Review Metadata

    Changes in beta 4:
    • Apple AAC encoder page fixes
Shows actual possible bitrate range for 44100Hz stereo content when invoked by CD Ripper
      Fixed visual glitches

    Changes in beta 5:
    • Fixed ReplayGain Utility codec configuration glitches
    • Bumped default limit of threads from 8 to 12
    • Fixed non-working "limit conversion threads" setting

    Changes in beta 6:
    • Various cosmetic glitches fixed
    • Fixed buggy behaviors of 'create profile' of the Convert dialog
    • Multi encoder now respects ID Tag Processing DSP for file name generation
    • Changed ID3v2 TIT1 mapping

    Changes in beta 7:
    • Added LAME MP3 advanced settings

    Beta2:
The bit rate of HE-AAC(v.1 and v.2) is too high.

Thanks for pointing it out, it will be changed.

In meanwhile, we already check against known bitrate limits of afconvert, so we do not fail if asked to encode an unsupported config - the bitrate is simply reduced to the nearest known working value.

This is a complicated matter, because the allowed bitrate change scales with the channel count, and the encoder configuration dialog has no knowledge of what the encoded channel count will be. Still, the highest apparent bitrate is 32kbps/channel for HE-AACv1 and 24kbps/channel for HE-AACv2, so the highest that's likely to be used - assuming 7.1 8-channel audio - is 256kbps and 192kbps respectively.

Beta 3 posted, both AAC encoder pages have been altered to prevent invalid configurations from being entered.
    Some notes:
FDK AAC allows four VBR scale values for HE-AAC, two for HE-AACv2.
Interestingly it does not seem to restrict CBR bitrates, happily encodes mono files at 512kbps.
We now allow every possible value in 0...127 rage for Apple AAC VBR.
Apple AAC CBR still allows possibly invalid settings to be entered as the encoder configuration dialog does not know how many channels your files have; in such case the nearest allowed bitrate will be used.

The AAC setting became easier to understand. Thank you!

Beta 4 posted, made Apple AAC encoder page behave more consistently.

Since there don't seem to be any pending issues, we'll push to stable shortly.

I think I'm seeing something odd with the beta, though it could just be my drive/computer. If I attempt to rip more than one CD, the second one seems to read as if it were bad -- that is, it reads very slowly. If I stop the rip and exit dbPoweramp, I get a notification that says the drive is still in use.

The previous version did not do this?

No, 16.3 works smoothly on repeated rips.
