It means the whole track is silence, you have tried playing that track in a CD player?

What album is it and when has it been released? Any hints for a copy protection on the cover?

It is Tom Waits Heartattack And Vine, yes it is a remaster just released. No indication of copy protection.

You would have to try a different CD drive to rip this disc

Yes ripping from my laptop drive worked, the failure was on my USB Plextor drive, why no rip ?

There is no single cd drive which can rip all CDs.

                      Re: Silence Detected

Oh yes. I've got several drives, same model, frm one well known manufacturer, that won't even recognize that you inserted certain CDs. Same identical issue with all of the same model. CDs are fine in every other drive I own. The manufacturer issued a firmware update to fix that issue, all it did was make the drive not recognize the insertion of a DIFFERENT set of CDs... And I've had plenty of cases where one drive rips with errors or fails the rip, but a different drive rips error free. And sometimes the opposite drives with a different CD. That's why it is worthwhile to have a collection of different model drives.

Hey, most of them are under $15 at my local computer store. I do find that most "full size" internal drives are far better than most :external" drives.
