Thread: Unwanted folders created on ripping

    Unwanted folders created on ripping

I'm struggling to get ripped albums in the right folder structure.

The problem is not naming, it is the tree folders added to the front.

I find removing "preserve path" simply dumps the files in my Lossless folder without creating any artist or album folders. But leaving in "preserve path" adds a tree of the following folders : users/user/music/Artist/album/. The files do go where I want them but the only new folders I need are for the Album and Artist not all the rest.

So how do I stop the system creating folders titled users/user/music without stopping it creating the necessary artist and album folders?

PS The set and drop down buttons for "path" (bottom left) appears to be disabled and reads "music" whatever else I do. Don't know if that's relevant.

You need to specify a Path (in CD Ripper) / Base Location (in Batch converter) and the right naming string.

Thanks for the reply, appreciate it.

I've specified the base location and that part seems fine. The Path button on the main ripper page is greyed out so I can't do anything with that. Mind you the frozen drop down box stubbornly states "music" so I have been eyeing the whole path thing suspiciously. How do I specify a path and how does that differ from base location?

The naming string I haven't attempted to do anything with as the default works for me. Or would if I could get rid of the unwanted tree folders. I'm not really trying anything harder than dropping new albums into the folder I already use hence I'm been expecting a simple solution. Perhaps there isn't one?

    Do you use multi encoder?

Then you have to specify path and naming string for each encoder separately!

Does a screenshot help see what I'm doing wrong?

I have been mirroring the various changes I've tried in both encoders. But clearly am still doing something wrong.

For each encoder, listed in the Encoder panel:
Encoder Settings >> Output To drop-down menu >> Edit Dynamic Naming

and set the Base Location, set the Dynamic Naming, click the OK button.

In the list box "Output to:" just click "Edit Dynamic Naming" and ste the base location and the naming string in the following dialog. That's all.

    i.e.:

    Base location: "C:\Users\myusername\Music"

    Naming string: "[artist]\[album]\[origfilename]"

Perfect. That works. Many thanks for your patience. Appreciated!
