A remote hard disk is a bit safer in my opinion, but has to be checked upon and could fail.
Myself, I have my collection on 3 external hdd's - 1 that I rip to, 1 that I play from and 1 at a friend's house. I probably should have a 4th one considering the amount of work that goes into my collection. How many backups is considered safe & sane?
