ALAC encoder question re 16.3 release notes

Hi, release notes for dBpoweramp 16.3 include the following remark, can you advise what this means in practice in terms of how the encoder has changed? Would a stereo ALAC file created by 16.3 (say from a FLAC download) be in any way different to one created with pre-16.3 versions?

"Apple Lossless encoder no longer requires WaveformatExtensible 1:1 channel mappings"

It only applies to 5.1 channel audio, and previously they would not encode to apple lossless if the channel order was non-standard.
