    Uncompressed FLAC seems compressed

I ripped HDCD CD to wav files. It is 24bit wav files. Then, I used Batch Converter as "Uncompressed FLAC". But such FLAC files seems "Compressed". For example, 62.09MB WAV converted to "Uncompressed FLAC" 41.43MB (34% compressed). FLAC Reference libFlac 1.3.1. Please let me know the reason why.

Just a guess based on the file sizes: 24bit WAV vs. 16bit flac.

Thank you very much. I did not know 24bit FLAC files always compressed. Only 16bit files will not compressed by FLAC......

    Re: Uncompressed FLAC seems compressed

I have question. A downlorded FLAC file is 24bit 192kHz but 0% compressed (for example 222.307KB). Then I converted to 24bit 192kHz WAV by Batch Converter is 220.415kB. Again I converted to 24bit 192kHz "Uncompressed" FLAC by Batch Converter is 0% compressed 220.510kB. This case 24bit file did not compressed by Batch Converter. Why ?

Must be something specific about the audio, try converting to a normal flac file and see what the compression ratio is.

    Re: Uncompressed FLAC seems compressed

Dear Spoon, I tried few things with Batch Converter. It seems interesting.

    WAV (24bit / 44.1kHz / 53.179 kB) to "Uncompressed" FLAC was 34% Compressed 35.482 kB.
    WAV (24bit / 48kHz / 57.882 kB) to "Uncompressed" FLAC was 0% Compressed 57.909 kB.

Two WAV files are same song. I converted from WAV 24bit / 44.1kHz to WAV 24bit / 48kHz by Korg Audiogate.

    Re: Uncompressed FLAC seems compressed

I got the same problem when I tried to rip a HDCD CD yesterday. The "uncompressed" 24-bit 44.1kHz FLAC files were always about 30% compressed after conversion from the corresponding 24-bit 44.1kHz WAV files.

After trying for a few hours, I finally managed to get my UNCOMPRESSED 24-bit 44.1kHz FLAC files as following:

    1. Use CD-Ripper to rip my HDCD CD to 24-bit 88.2kHZ WAV files
    2. Use the Music Converter or Batch Converter to convert these 24-bit 88.2 kHz WAVs to "uncompressed" 24-bit 44.1 kHz FLACs

The resulting FLACs were about the same sizes of those of 24-bit 44.1kHz WAVs with 0% compression. I don't understand how this happen, but I want to share my above experience with those who are interested in this issue.
