    Modatic's site

is talking about transparent ripping at 160+kbps

using a codec called Muse PaCK

when will we be able to use dBpoweramp to play these files back?

Sometime soon. A codec is in development as we speak, though Spoon isn't having much luck with it :(.

Currently, you can encode them if you have the Power Pack.

The MusePack has me slightly confused - if I have it right, one guy was developing it, he stopped and it has been taken over by someone else who is also adding in things like monkeys audio?

        History lesson:

MPC was developed by Andree Buschmann. Originally, he distributed the source code for the decoder. Frank Klemn, got his hands on the decoder source and made it a hell of a lot faster. Andree Buschmann trusted Frank and gave Frank Klemn the source code for the encoder. Frank Klemn made huge encoder speed increases of ~30%. Frank makes regular tunings and tweaks all the time to MPC (Andree is fine with them). His versions are more advanced, have more features (encoding from FLAC, LPAC and APE) and are far more tuned. Frank Klemn has been the lead coder so to speak, for the last 11 months. Andree hasn't released any official binaries from his website for the last 11-12 months.

Please Spoon, when you make the MPC plugin, use Frank Klemn's version.

I hope Spoon gets done soon because as my user name implies, I am an MPC Fanatic, the only format I use for lossy music compression is MPC (I also use Monkey's Audio for lossless archival purposes on a seperate computer) and I would like the convenience of converting it natively using dBpowerAMP Music Converter instead of using the CLI encoder and being able to play it in dBpowerAMP Audio Player.
