    Definition of upstream art

What is the definition of upstream art? Is it the same as embedded art, or "cover.jpg in folder" or both - or none of these?

I un-ticked "UpStream Artwork" in Asset UPnP but still have artwork in Asset Control. I must be missing the point?

Does upstream art apply to most of the common tags eg. Artist, Album Artist, Album, Genre, Composer, Soloists etc or just to some of them?

It means when browsing artists it will show covers from an artists album, just one per artist which helps identify artists.

      Re: Definition of upstream art

      1) So upstream art has nothing to do with showing artwork for albums? It is just a way of borrowing artwork from albums to be shown for the artists?

      2) As source for upstream art, I assume Asset can make use of both embedded art and "cover.jpg in folder", but embedded art takes preference?

      3) Can I override upstream art by placing an artist.jpg in the folder?

Is there any way I can choose the upstream art myself?

          As metadata?

If not, how does Asset choose the cover for upstream art? Alphabetically, the first one added, adequate size, ...?

It is not possible to choose, the first track scanned by asset which is not alphabetic is used.

So if I add just one album for the first time for an artist, Asset will pick upstream art from that album of course.

Will Asset stick to that art even if I add more albums? And even if I rescan the collection?

                  Re: Definition of upstream art

If you build your collection from scratch, would it be possible to add a fake album with desired art as the first added album for every artist, and then delete it?

Would Asset still keep the upstream art from that fake, deleted album?

                      Re: Definition of upstream art

I think I'd appreciate to have upstream art, I like the idea.

Is it widely implemented? Will it work in software apps eg. Bubble and Cambridge Connect and even hardware with a display for cover art, eg. Cambridge CXN, some Pioneer's and a few others?

Could you give me some examples of software and hardware where it will work, so I can go explore them?

It should work in all software which shows album art when browsing.

                          Thanks for all the answers.

I'm going to test with hardware too, to see if it works. Would be swell if it did!

If you would have the time to make it easier to change the upstream art, I would appreciate it very much. Even if the "fake album method" works, it is a tough way of doing it.
