I'm thinking of purchasing a copy of dBpoweramp CD Ripper, but I would like to know if I will get updates for life after doing so or if I will have to purchase again for an updated version in the future.

Updates within a single version (e.g. R16.0 to R16.1) are free for life, but you will have to pay for upgrades to new major version releases (e.g. R16.1 to R17.0).
