Convert Apple Lossless to Flac

I have tried to convert Apple lossless to flac and get the following error

Error converting to , 'I:\TEMP\Itunes\Music\AC_DC\Higway To Hell\01 Highway To Hell.m4a' to 'I:\TEMP\Itunes\Music\AC_DC\Higway To Hell\01 Highway To Hell'
Error no encoder specified. [dBCoreConverter::ParseCommandLine]

Similar error for all other tracks

I have a similar problem converting WAV to FLAC in both Batch Converter and Music Converter.

This is a newly set up PC running Windows 10 Pro and dBpoweramp R16 and the first time trying any conversion.

On my previous PC I did many conversions using dBpoweramp R15.

I'm using Norton Security, as I was on my old PC.

Unfortunately my old PC is totally stuffed, so I can't try dBpoweramp R16 on what was a working system.

Try to disable Norton, something is stopping dBpoweramp from working on a fundamental level (Music converter writes to a temp file the encoding details and passes on the command line to Core Converter), simple stuff which has not changed in 10 years of dBpoweramp.

on your old PC you may have already turned on an exception for dbpa in Norton, but in your new PC that "exception" has not been added. Thus dbpa not working.

I've tried various changes in Norton - turning off Smart Firewall and Auto-Protect, adding program control allow rules for MusicConverter and CoreConverter. These have made no difference.

My only other thought was that the source and target files for the conversion are on a mapped drive pointing to my QNAP NAS. I copied a WAV to C:\ and tried that, still failed.

I've installed Sysinternals Process Monitor and can see MusicCreator creating a dBT.....tmp file, then writing to it, CoreConverter being called and reading the temp file, then exiting. I can't see anything that is obviously an error.

Try selecting the encoder as 'Test Conversion', if that does not convert, enable the debug log please in the Advanced Settings of the Control Centre.

I selected 'Test Conversion', it worked fine, went back to FLAC and that now worked!
