    Track Ripped Insecurely

    I'm having problems ripping cd's on an early 2011 Macbook Pro running OS X 10.11.5 running dBpoweramp Version 15.5. I keep getting an error saying the tracks ripped insecurely. I do not rip cd's on this computer unless I am having issues on my iMac so I just noticed it. It happens with multiple discs and happened with both version 15.4 and 15.5. CD's do rip ok in iTunes, so I don't think it is the drive.

    Here are the errors I just got when I tried to rip Abbey Road:

          I don't think that this is a proof because iTunes ignores most of the problems and errors during ripping.

              In dBpoweramp the files are supposed to go into Music/dBpoweramp. I just get the error saying the tracks were ripped insecurely and there are no files in that directory. I did rip the album in iTunes. I did play the songs from the first side and all of those played ok.

                  The screen print you posted showed that the files had errors and didn't rip at all. Even if ripped as "insecure" they would show "insecure" rather than ERROR and would have a CRC listed. Your screen print shows ERROR and no CRC.

                          I am using dBpoweramp Version 15.5. This also happened with Version 15.4. I am running OS X 10.11.5

                          I did previously rip this particular CD on my iMac with no problems. This was just a test because I was having issues getting anything to rip on the Macbook. The above mentioned scenario has happened with multiple discs. The Macbook was previously ripping stuff ok. Not sure when the problems surfaced. I first noticed this last week.

                              The second rip being accurate would make me think that the internal cd drive on the Macbook Pro is bad. What doesn't make any sense to me is that I ripped the same cd in iTunes and it ripped fine. I listened to the first side of the record and didn't hear any imperfections. Also, my wife just told me she ripped some stuff in iTunes on her account and she burned those files to a disc and used them on a different computer with no issues.

                                  You have to remember that itunes is not a secure ripper. It will try to rip and do so even if there are errors (and NOT report anything about errors to the user). dbpa is a secure ripper and will try to deal with errors (no matter how minor) and report such errors. The errors dbpa reports may not be audible when listening. Thus an itunes rip with errors may be perfectly listenable with no obvious errors, but it doesn't mean one obtained a bitperfect rip.

                                      Thanks for the info. I wasn't thinking about iTunes not being secure even though the tracks played correctly. However, that gave me an idea. I downloaded X Lossless Decoder for Mac which will do accurate rips and ripped Abbey Road using the internal cd drive. It ripped successfully with no errors. The log from XLD is posted below:

                                              Hi Spoon,

                                              The drive was working with C2 pointers initially. The drive said it was supported. I'll try disabling them this evening and will send an update then.

                                                  Hi Spoon,

                                                  Disabling the C2 pointers worked. I just ripped 8 different discs on the Macbook Pro with no issues.
