Flac 24 bit to 16 bit

I've got some 24 Bit flac files that I would like to flip to 16 bit.

Can I do this with Batch Converter? When I set up a flac to flac conversion there is no option to set the bitrate.

Is it possible to do this, and if so, how?

Do I need to convert to another format, then back to flac?

Is there a third party utility I should use for this?

    Thanks, Pete

Use the DSP effect 'Bit Depth'

convert to a different location so as not to overwrite the original.

Do you have a recommendation for "Dither"?

It looks like to go from 24/96k to 16/44.1k I'll need both the "BitDepth" and "Resample" DSPs.

Does it matter which order the DSPs are listed in the "DSP Effects/Action" window? In addition to those, I am also running "ReplayGain" and "ID Tag Processing" which are listed ahead of Bitdepth/Resample.

Found these answers (Triangular dither and Resample before bitDepth) :

Does it matter which order the DSPs are listed: RG, ID TAG, Resample, BitDepth?

    Bit depth should be last.

    Hi Spoon -

I have some huge 24/192 FLAC files that I'd like to take down to 24/48 ALAC files to put on iPhone. 24/48 seems to be the max for iPhone without using a DAC.

Is there a recommended path / order to do this? Do I need to dither if it is staying as 24bit? Do I need any of the DSPs?

    Thank!

You would just use Resample, no need to change the bit depth if already 24 bit.
