Can Someone Help Please - Metadata!

I've had a problem that I've not been able to resolve for some time in relation to multiple values for a single tag. It's existed on version 3 and 4 of Asset and I've just upgraded to version 5 and I've still got the same problem. Here's the problem:

I use the "Style" tag to classify the quality/source of the rip. So for example all my MP3s are tagged as "Lossy", my CD rips are tagged as "Redbook; Lossless", my vinyl rips as "HQ; Lossless" and my non-mp3 type downloads as "MQ; Lossless". The point being that I can see my rips based on the quality but also that I can see all lossless rips under the one category of "Lossless" and all non-lossless under the category of "Lossy".....but it doesn't work for certain files/albums.

With the exception of those tagged "MQ; Lossless" everything seems to work ok. For example, I can go into "Style" on my control point and view HQ and see all my HQ vinyl rips but also when I go into "Lossless" and can see both the HQ rips and the CD rips. But for the downloaded lossless files the Style entry shows "MQ; Lossless" instead of just MQ and I don't see any of those files in the "Lossless" category either. Very strange and it happens on two different control point clients (Naim and Plugplayer)

When I look at the tags using edit-id tag then the values are all correct. FYI....all the lossless rips are WAV format.

Here's what my browse tree looks like in Asset....

If you browse style, it is not listing 'MQ; Lossless' as one entry?

Yes, Spoon.......it shows "MQ; Lossless" as one entry whereas the files tagged as "HQ; Lossless" show seperately i.e. "HQ" and "Lossless" seperately

Then it is tagged incorrectly, I am guessing they are flac files and they are actually internally stored as 'MQ; Lossless', where as internally they should have 2 separate tags.

They are shown in the directory as WAV files but it's quite possible they were originally FLAC and I've converted to WAV.

Is there a way to fix the files at all?

Use dBpoweramp to tag them. Remove the style tag, then re-add it.

You are best converting to flac, it handles id tags better.

You converted to flac, then removed the style tag, then re-add the style tag. Then do a rescan of the Asset?

No I removed and re-added the tag whilst they were WAVs and then converted to FLAC........I'll try what you have suggested and get back shortly.....thanks

Hi Spoon....no that didn't fix it and introduced some strange results. So my browse tree now looks lie:

                        HQ
                        Lossless
                        MQ
                        MQ; Lossless
                        Redbook

"MQ" only shows the first artist in the folder of artists that have been tagged "MQ; Lossless"

"MQ; Lossless" shows all the artists (except the first one) in the folder that have been tagged "MQ; Lossless"

"Lossless" shows everything tagged "HQ; Lossless", everything tagged "Redbook; Lossless", the first artist in the folder tagged "MQ; Lossless" but not the others

Which program are you using to write the tags?

I'm using dBpoweramp Batch Converter with the ID Tag Update function. I'm checking the tags have been written correctly using dBpoweramp Edit-ID tag capability.

Please upload one of these flac files, to dropbox, then Personal Message the link to me on this forum.
