Thread: Album artist tag not showing in folder view after update to windows 10

Question Album artist tag not showing in folder view after update to windows 10

    Hi,

I upgraded today from Windows 7 to Windows 10.
All my music files are wav files(....not interested in converting to flac at this time, etc).
    I am using DBPoweramp 14.4.

After the update, the ALBUM ARTIST tag in folder view is blank.
This tag worked fine in folder view of Windows 7.

I tried a couple of MP3 files and the ALBUM ARTIST tag works as it did in Windows 7.

I realize I am using wav files and that the ALBUM ARTIST tag is not a standard tag, but it all worked fine in Windows 7 and was part of the reason I purchased DBPA.

    Any ideas?
Am I going to have to revert to Windows 7?
(If I do, I still have concerns for my wav tags in the future).

    Thanks

When you say, in folder view, are you referring to a folder in Windows File Explorer?

If, yes, do you have an album artist column?

... also, check that wav is not ticked in the Exclusions list in:
dBpoweramp Configuration >> Music Converter >> Windows Explorer Integration >> Thumbnail and Property Handler

It seems for certain formats which are natively supported, such as WAVE, mp3, even FLAC now that Windows 10 is only using Microsofts tag reader, not mine. But for formats which are not supported by the OS it is using mine (such as a monkeys audio file with ape tags).

I had a wave file which has only an id3 chunk, windows shows no tags on that panel, but if an list chunk with info tags is added then that panel is populated, but info tags do not support album artist. Also if you edit anything on that panel, the id3 chunk if present would not be updated by windows.

I will note as something to investigate, but I suspect the OS is now locked in this regard.

It's only a problem for WAVE files.

I have tested it with MP3 and FLAC to verify that the ALBUM ARTIST column DOES display album artist in Windows 10 just as it always did in Windows 7.

It's only with WAVE in Windows 10 that the column is blank.

Yes these are handled correctly by Windows.

I had this problem also when I upgraded to Windows 10.

    The fix:

I converted all the files to WAVE format with the dBpoweramp Music Converter. I just selected "Overwrite" when it said the files already existed and success! The WAVE tag data is now displayed in Windows Explorer or actually in Windows 10 its called File Explorer.
