    replay gain

    Hi,

Quick question about the replay gain.

I'm finding that tracks ripped with the replay gain facility on tend to turn the gain up during the quiet parts of a track, and limit the gain during louder parts, making the whole track sound the same volume.

Which has its pros and cons i guess.

I did a test by copying a track then using foobar to remove the replay gain information from the copied tracks tag.

But didnt really notice much difference in the dynamics.

Is this replay gain information been hard wired into the file itself, or is it only attached to the tags and removable?

    thanks

ReplayGain will calculate one gain setting for each song, and one gain setting for the album. It will not change the dynamics of a track.

RG info is just tag info (for use by the playback system to adjust VOLUME, not dynamic range). It doesn't change the info in the audio of the file unless one uses the DSP, ReplayGain APPLY, which is something different.

Thanks, this is what I needed to know. At least I know now I've been making any mistakes.
