Converting from FLAC to WMA - ID Tags and Artwork are missing

Seeking the wisdom of others on this please: I am converting FLAC to WMA (9.2). The source FLAC files have all of the ID Tags, Metadata, and artwork present. But after the conversion, the resultant .wma files have nothing. They play OK, but it's a bit frustrating to lose all of that info. Where should I look to see which tick-box I have missed ?

    Thanks guys,

    Robbo.

Right click on the FLAC file >> Edit ID Tags, are ID Tags shown in dBpoweramp tag editor?

Then do the same for the created WMA files, are tags shown?

FLAC files - all ID Tag info is there
WMA files - no ID Tag info there

    See attached screenshots:

On the wma tag window, what happens if you try to manually add a new tag? click ok, then edit tags again does it show?

OK, so as a test I converted a FLAC file twice to the same test directory. One conversion to mp3, one conversion to WMA - as you can see from the attached directory listing (screenshot 1). The ID Tags have converted to the mp3 file absolutely fine, as you can see on screenshot 2. But there are no ID Tags on the WMA file. When I try and add a Tag, I get an error - as you can see on screenshot 3. Why does the mp3 conversion create the tags, but the WMA conversion does not ? I can edit the Tags on the mp3 file - as you can see on screenshot 4 - so I must have the correct permissions to the directory.

Thanks for your help on this.

Are you able to convert from a WMA file which is tagged to mp3, are the tags transferred?

Sorry Spoon, not sure I understand what you are asking here. I think you are asking me to convert a WMA file to an mp3 file. Is that right ? The problem is that I do not have a WMA file which has ID Tags. So I cannot convert a "WMA file which is tagged" to mp3. I could convert an WMA file which has no Tags, to mp3, and then see if I could add tags to the mp3 file. Is that what you need me to do ?

Or could you upload a WMA file which has Tags ? I could then download and do the conversion to mp3, to see if the Tags get converted.

OK- I downloaded and extracted it.

Odd that I see no ID Tags - see screenshot *1
But if I play it, somehow WMP "knows" the title - see screenshot *2
And if I try to convert the WMA file to mp3, the conversion fails - see screenshot *3

I'm thinking that I must have the wma codec installed, as I can convert to WMA ? ? ?

    Confused

OK I've checked on the dbPoweramp config page

I have wma codec listed under "write" - see screenshot *1
No wma codec listed under "read" - see screenshot *2

    2-dbpoweramp-read-codecs.JPG

Do I need a wma "read" codec then ? If so, how do I get it ?

    Thanks

Uninstall the WMA codec, and reinstall.

Check that your security software is not blocking our WMA.DLL decoder.

Sorted !! Those 2 steps have done the trick.

    Many thanks, Spoon

Which security software was blocking it?

I think the removal and re-install of the Codec was what did the trick. But I did also add a shedload of dbPoweramp files to the list of allowed applications in my Kaspersky Internet Security. Probably overkill, but it works, so I'm leaving it as-is.

    Thanks,
