Tracks coming up "Secure" with check mark on new CD?

    Hey everyone,

I just have a quick question regarding rip status. I initially ripped a brand new CD (Opeth - Orchid) which is a re-issue CD featuring an added bonus track. When I ripped it the first time, the first 6 tracks ripped accurate with 15+, but the last two (one of the original tracks and the extra bonus at the end) both ripped "secure" with a check mark.

I had never encountered this before, so out of curiosity I got another brand-new copy of the CD and the EXACT same thing happened with that CD, first 6 tracks were accurate, and the last two were secure with a check mark.

What does that mean exactly? Do I have to be concerned with the audio quality or should it be fine?

Sorry if this question is asked a lot, I tried searching around but couldn't find a for-sure answer.

    Thanks!

If you try a different cd drive with the different disc and get the same crc then it is 100% accurate.

Thanks I'll test that out, so just compare the CRC that I just got from ripping the newer CD to the one that will display on the other computer?

So just to update, I tested the disk with a different drive and the 7th track (last of the original tracks) matched up CRC with the one from my other PC. However, for the bonus track the CRCs were different, yet both yielded secure with a check mark and the CRCs remained the same after I ripped them both a few times.

So does that mean my rip for the last track definitely has an error?

edit: The VERY weird thing, however, is that it is ONLY the bonus track, which is the last track on the disk, on BOTH disks that does not match up CRC wise. I ripped both disks on my PC and on my Mac using Parallels, and both disks matched themselves perfectly in both rip status and CRC except for the bonus track on each disk (which again was labeled Secure with a check mark).

Could this just be due to the bonus track not really being seeded into Accurate Rip? Or does this mean that BOTH disks have errors in the last track?

Different drives might have different offsets, you have have to compare the AccurateRip CRC in the log as the CRC for the last track will be different.

It is likely that this disc is a different pressing only for the last few tracks (it is possible, although quite rare).

edit: THanks for the help, I think I found it in the folder along with my files, this is what it looks like:

            8 Tracks Ripped: 6 Accurate, 2 Secure

So do you mean I should be comparing CB3AE7EC for track 8 against the other rip with my Mac?

edit 2: So I went ahead and ripped the last track again using my Mac and also got CB3AE7EC for the last track, does that mean I'm 100% accurate?

Yes matching AccurateRip CRCs = 100% secure

it is ONLY the bonus track, which is the last track on the disk, on BOTH disks that does not match up CRC wise
A CRC mismatch on the last track may not indicate that anything is wrong. I believe the checksum algorithm ignores the last 5 frames at the end of the last track (as well as the first 5 frames at the beginning of the first).
