Is it possible to access my music library on my NAS when I am not at home?

I have Asset running in a Win7 VM on my server. My music library is on a Muziek share on my server on my home-network. This works great for streaming to my iDevices which access the same network. I would like to access this music library when I am away from home. Would this be possible over internet through VPN? Can anyone give me some help on how to set this up? Are there any free VPN services?

You would need a router which supported VPN, then you connect to your home network.

I have an ASUS RT-N66U router which has VPN Server functionality. Is the PPTP the same as what you mean? Shoud I also install a VPN client on the device from which I want to access the server over VPN?

Can I access Asset UPNPs library this way?

Sorry for all these questions, this is completely new for me. And I don't want the contents of my server open on the internet. In other words: I want it secure.
