Core Converter Hangup

When trying to batch convert an album (from uncompressed FLAC to level 8 FLAC), often times a single track file will hang up and prevents all further action. I'm not able to cancel the conversion and i cannot operate on either the source or destination folders to (for example) delete the trouble file and replace with a uncompressed version. Anytime i attempt to do anything to the album file, i get a message saying that the Core Converter is running in another program, etc. The only way i can clear this is to shut down the computer, disconnect harddrives and restart. What's the problem?? THanks for your much needed help!

These kind of lockups tend to be with low level file system errors, if you cannot end task core converter, then it is system related, rather than program related.
