I thought artwork was embedded with Apple Lossless?

I'm a new user, about to rip 200+ CDs. Running dbPowerAmp 14.3 (almost ready to buy!). Windows 7 64-bit.

I am experimenting with ripping Apple Lossless. I was under the impression that the album artwork was embedded. However, I notice that the folder with the album does contain a jpg containing the artwork. Perhaps it is embedded too? Could I please get some clarity about this?

Both embedded and folder.jpg are written
