    dBpoweramp CD Ripper Crashing

    Hello,

After setting the secure ripping settings as per the tutorial, I am now getting regular crashes with my trial of dBpoweramp (seems like a great program though otherwise).

What happens is as follows :

Insert a CD as requested by the program
    The program displays "reading cd"
    This goes on and on
Try exiting program - won't exit
Try ending process with task manager - most often still won't force close
After crash both my CD drives disappear from dPoweramp and my computer
Have to restart computer to find drives again

Many thanks in advance for any help.

Run this to clear all the settings, then try on default settings:

It could be a setting like c2 pointers is causing issues.

    Spoon,

Thanks for the (instant) response and the link provided. How do I specifically clear settings to default? Do you want me, at this stage to do a complete uninstall/reinstall?

    Thanks again.

p.s. whilst awaiting reply, switched back to burst ripping and restarted computer. CD/DVD drives reappeared but, upon insertion of disc, got the "<reading cd...>" message and (not responding).

Uninstalled dBpoweramp and ran the cleanup tool. Reinstalled and, on first run, got "<reading cd...> and (not responding) again.

It's weird because I managed to rip several CD's last night before this problem started today.

It is likely there is a fault with the CD drive, the CD drives disappearing means the CD drive is crashing internally, this should never happen.

    Spoon,

Thank you. However, after the crash, why do you suppose both DVD/CD drives disappear from the system?

Perhaps the drive controller is crashing, try disconnecting one of the drives if you can, then swap.

    Re: dBpoweramp CD Ripper Crashing

I like dbpoweramp a lot, BUT it crashes EVERY TIME after ripping 3-5 CDs. ( I think once i was able to rip 7 )
I have to force switch the computer off, can't stop the process elsewise. Shutting down doesn't work neither. No blue screen.
With this last crash also WinExplorer is involved and frozen, too, as is the task bar and win-menu. Firefox keeps working.

No difference if i rip with the batch ripper or with the CD ripper.

I have already switched off the C2 pointer and the AMG media database.

I am using the latest dbpoweramp on a Lenovo Thinkpad X301 / Win7 64, enough disk, all uptodate.
I think my computer uses the Intel Matrix Storage Drivers but this issue is apparently fixed.
Processor is an Intel Core 2 Duo processor SU9400 (1.4 GHz, 3 MB, 800 MHz) (speed, L2 cache, FSB)
    4GB of Ram.
    Datasheet here if interested: http://shop.lenovo.com/ISS_Static/me..._Datasheet.pdf

Other users have reported no benefit of un/reinstall.
Is it useful to just clear registries with the "reset.exe" you provided ?
Would you give it a try and uninstall/reinstall ?

    Thanks
    Mike

    Re: dBpoweramp CD Ripper Crashing

I like dbpoweramp a lot, but unfortunately it freezes/hangs/crashes CONSISTENTLY after ripping 3-7 CDs to AIFF.
No matter if using the batch or the CD ripper.
Task manager does not end the process, shutting down does NOT work, so I have to do a force-switch-off.

Last crash also Win explorer and other programs involved.

Machine is a Lenovo X301 4GB Ram Win7Pro 64 bit, all uptodate, sufficient disk space.

Uninstall of dbpoweramp does not work (system can't find the spoonuninstall.exe) and uninstalling with CCleaner does not work neither.

    A) how can i uninstall all ?
    B) would it be worthwhile to try a re-install ?
    C) should I also clear registries with your "reset.exe" ?

    Thanks
    Mike

    Re: dBpoweramp CD Ripper Crashing

Does the CD drive disappear from Explorer?

    To uninstall, reinstall, then uninstall.

Clear the entries is a good idea.

The CD drive was still visible, but Explorer unresponsive.

Will do re-install, uninstall, clear registries, re-install and try again from that point.

Forget to say earlier: THANKS for the rapid reply, very much appreciated. Excellent support.

I uninstalled the CD ripper successfully and apparently also the entries in the registries

But, how do I uninstall the BATCH Ripper ?

I think the problem is solved, i think only the entries of the batch ripper were left in the menu bar, but the program deinstalled.

    Re: dBpoweramp CD Ripper Crashing

    Update:
Batch ripper was in fact probably not completely uninstalled, as upon new/re-install I was asked if I wanted to re-install the previous version.

I went through a reinstall, uninstall, reset, reinstall cycle.......

Same problem, this time on second CD
Hangs, freezes, and need for forced power switch off

As Explorer also crashed I can't tell if the CD drive is working or not
