    Custom Tags and Vorbis Comment Fix Badly Needed

    When creating custom tags for ripping CDs to FLAC, dbpoweramp does NOT always obey the preferred vorbis comment recommendation and therefore we do not get the desired results.

    For some 'standard' fields, such as Composer, this entry

    COMPOSER=composer1; composer2

    results in these FLAC tags:

    COMPOSER=composer1
    COMPOSER=composer2

    This is correct behavior. However, for a custom PERFORMER tag entry like this:

    PERFORMER=Performer1 (Lead vocals, Instrument1); Performer2 (Instrument2)

    we get:

    PERFORMER=Performer1 (Lead vocals, Instrument1); Performer2 (Instrument2)

    As you can see, this is not correct behavior.

    When writing *custom* tags as vorbis comments, dbpoweramp should ALWAYS follow the recommended practice and create a separate tag for each entry unless otherwise specified.

    This is becoming a deal-breaker for us, as we want to expand on the basic set of vorbis comments in order to add important search tags to our radio station's music library. Performer is an essential tag required for each track.

    Exclamation Re: Custom Tags and Vorbis Comment Fix Badly Needed

    Let me restate this problem:

    When creating custom tags for ripping CDs to FLAC, dbpoweramp does NOT always obey the preferred vorbis comment recommendation and therefore we do not get the desired results.

    For some 'standard' fields, such as COMPOSER, entering this information in the Composer field in dbpoweramp, like this:

    composer1; composer2

    results in these FLAC tags:

    COMPOSER=composer1
    COMPOSER=composer2

    This is correct behavior. However, when entering the values for a custom tag entry (Perfomer) like this:

    Performer1 (Lead vocals, Instrument1); Performer2 (Instrument2)

    we get only one very long Vorbis comment:

    PERFORMER=Performer1 (Lead vocals, Instrument1); Performer2 (Instrument2)

    As you can see, this is not correct behavior. We should be able to get these vorbis comments (FLAC tags) instead:

    PERFORMER=Performer1 (Lead vocals, Instrument1)
    PERFORMER=Performer2 (Instrument2)

    When writing any tag as vorbis comments, we believe that dbpoweramp should ALWAYS follow the recommended practice and create a separate tag for each entry unless otherwise specified by an option for each tag field name. The options are there for a few standard tags, such as Artist, but not at all for any custom tags.

    This is becoming a deal-breaker for us, as we want to expand on the basic set of vorbis comments in order to add important search tags to our radio station's music library. Performer is an essential tag required for each track.

    Spoon...please address this issue.

    Thanks...

    Noted, but we cannot commit to a fix timescale currently

    Spoon...

    That's all I can ask, and thank you for eventually addressing this issue. The sooner the better, but I understand the issues. In the meantime, I can always retag each track using Mp3tag.exe, but of course this is an extra and time-consuming step that is very unsatisfactory in the long run.

    Our major long-range goal is to convince artists and record companies to distribute music to radio stations, other professionals and discriminating collectors in lossless FLAC file formats, complete with a wide range of vorbis comments...anticipating the day when physical CDs and other optical discs go the way of 8-track cartridges and cassette tape. We're also looking for PDF 'booklets' of the current liner notes and lyrics to accompany the collection of tracks comprising an album.

    Your help with improving the ability to tag CDs converted to FLAC is appreciated....and essential to our work.

    Thanks...
