    ID tag bug

Please excuse me if I'm off base here.
I ran into tagging FLAC files rendering a useless file. So I went with Apple Lossless to avoid destroying my files. But after playing my library I see that Apple lossless just glitches and keeps playing unlike FLAC that gets a stream error and stops.

On researching this some point to the picture as the culprit and being written to a "weird" chunk in the file?

Odd thing is I can re-encode /re-tag and it be just fine. Seems to be a random occurrence.
If any or all of this is true could you build a batch file check for this issue?

    Thanks

Which program wrote the tags? which rendered it useless.

What is your player? for Apple Lossless you need to test in iTunes.

      1.Foobar
      2.itunes/iPod/VMedia/foobar

Like I mentioned it is so random that I could not just come back on 1 instance.
I first thought it was the transfer from itunes to ipod. But with time I guess that it happens at one of two points.

1.the conversion from 24/48 wav to apple lossless
      2.tagging the .m4a files.

today I found one as I played right after loading into iTunes.

Took 24/96 flac convert to wav. resample to 24/48
      convert to apple lossless
add files to iTunes. retag album name & set gapless flag.

at 2:50 into a song get the glitch. Kinda like a tsizt or tssssst. sound.

I went to orig flac file no glitch.
redid file back into iTunes..... no glitch

You might want to try dBpoweramp for converting and tagging, although I am not sure why FB would be corrupting FLAC files for you (it is a very popular program, so my initial thoughts would be, especially as ALAC also has issues for you, is that your HDD has problems).

          Hey Spoon,
I ran into one where I had 24/192wav files. I converted to 24/192 ALAC
for storage. When I loaded my 24/48 in iTunes I had a glitch so I went to these ALAC masters and the glitch was there. This leads me to think your routine could be the culprit.
I did not realize that iTunes converts to. I have had so many glitches with converting with your batch tool that I have decided to use the iTunes for a while to see if the problem goes away.

Convert 24/96flac to wav then resample to 24/48. Load in iTunes and convert to Apple Lossless. Load files into foobar and retag. Load back into iTunes.

system is a i5 quadcore on win7 64bit. Hardrives are new 2TB on usb3.0 Docks

Well like I said its random.
I did a few LP's thru iTunes routine and..... the glitch sound.

Could it be ALAC and 24bit?

Again I ask can you run a batch to detect this? Say in your verify file after it is converted? its like pink or white noise?

You cannot verify if changing the audio (with resample), etc.

Try the latest R14.1 (in the beta section) if you are not running this latest version.

                Hey Spoon,

Thanks for the beta... I totally missed that heading.

I encoded 2 LP's same as usual. I listened to 18 tracks and no glitch.
I hope I'm through bothering you
The mutli core encoding is nice.

So if its fixed... funny that it is in iTunes encoder.

                silly macs

As for FLAC, once I'm sure I can batch Apple Lossless with no problem.... I will be leaving FLAC behind.

                Thanks Again!

Interesting, as many more people seem to report issues dealing with apple lossless than with FLAC. And Foobar users certainly are mostly FLAC users (well, for LOSSLESS I mean). I have about 60,000+ FLAC files and the tags, etc. are fine. I use dbpa for ripping and mp3tag, foobar2000, and SqueezeboxServer on these files for various purposes and not issues with FLAC files.

Sometimes you just have to make a choice.... Chevy or Ford Mongoose or Snake.

Hopefully I play my cards right and Apple follows me with hardware

Right now I have the classic 80GB iPod with the Wolfson Microelectronics DAC running into the LF/RF of the Multi Inputs on my Surround Processor.... which bypasses any further processing. And I love the sound. Also I get 24/48 tunes in my car.

                      Re: ID tag bug

Well Spoon I lied... I'm back.

I no longer get the white noise glitch and the problem I am experiencing on a random scale may not have anything to do with your application.

On a most random occasion I get a sometimes small.... sometimes larger pausing of the audio on the iPod.

I have to wonder if the glitch has changed to a pause?

I also am of the mind it is purely a random glitch of the iTunes sync mechanism.

The pause is almost... no I'm sure its always at the beginning of a song.. which all my LP's are set to gapless playback.

I did delete a song from the playlist... sync.. add song back to play list... sync... The pause got smaller.. but was present.

Have you released a new beta?

                      Thanks,

                      AA

I tried the re sync once more... only to be met with a pause.
I played the file in iTunes and VLC Media player and no such pause.
I deleted all instances of my file and went back to the 24/96 Flac and started the process over. Re sync to Ipod and played starting from the previous track.
Again the LP being set to gapless. No such pause.

As per previous posts... all files being converted to wave... resampled to 24/48 and then converted to apple lossless, Tagged and set to gapless in iTunes.

                        Welcome to the Matrix

After many deletes and reloads.. I realized the pauses were staying in the same tracks.

I have now stripped the FLACS of any and all tags. Loaded into iTunes as per usual. Did tags "manually" in iTunes with just bare essentials.

                              track 1 of 11 etc

                              reloaded into iPod

If this doesn't yield results I will be starting with the orig aif files.

I really do not want to go to 16 bit files... I want to win
