Asset Seems to be Truncating 24 bits to 16

I just installed "The Bridge" into my PS Audio Perfect Wave Dac. This allows me to stream music files directly to the dac from my NAS without the files passing through a computer. The dac has a display for incoming bit depth and frequency. I've streamed 24/44.1, 24/88.2 and 24/96 flac files. In all cases the dac displays the correct frequency, but always 16 bits. Files streamed via Twonky display the correct bit and frequency.

In "advanced settings" I've left bit and frequency to "original". Meaning I have not told Asset to truncate the bits to 16 or down sample the frequency to 48.

I've tried Asset on my Windows 7 PC, and on my WHS HP MediaSmart server. I got the same results in both cases.

Others on the PS Audio forum report the same results with Asset.

Is this a bug, that is forcing the bit truncation.

Please help. I want to purchase Asset, but not if it's truncating the bits.

It depends on how 'The Bridge' is reading from Asset, if it is requesting L16 (LPCM) then it is 16 bit.

      Spoon,

Thanks for the quick reply. I don't see how The Bridge could be requesting 16 bits. There is no way to tell it to do that, and it reads the bit depth correctly from Twonky. I've toggled between reading from Twonky and Asset, with the result that The Bridge reads 24 bits from Twonky and 16 from Asset.

      Any thoughts?

      Thanks,

      Rich

You would have to switch on the debug log in Asset (and play one file) to see what format is being used.

Okay. How do I do that. Then..... where do if access the log and how do I read it?

          Thanks,

          Rich

            Asset Configuration >> Advanced

In the general settings is the debug enable, it also says where the log is.

              Spoon,

              It says it's save in c:\documents and settings\default user\application data\.....

I'm running Windows 7 on my PC and do not have that set of directories. Also I am now running Asset on my HP Media Smart WHS. I've don't see any way to access that directory string.

              Can you help.

              Thanks,

              Rich

The folder is hidden by default, copy and paste the path into explorer.

                  Spoon --

Below is, I think, the relevant output from near the end of the log file. I notice is says samplefrequency = "96000" bitspersample = "24". Does this confirm that Asset is sending out 24 bits, or could I have this log message and Asset still be truncating the 24 bits to 16"

                  Thanks,

                  Rich

The log should contain the actual file request from the player where it indicates which format is sent out, where it says: ProcessFileRequest

Spoon, thank you for your help today. Asset is indeed outputting the correct bit depth. It is a display problem in The Bridge that is going to be fixed.
