    Optimizing RipNAS Playback

The RipNAS when used with two HDDs will backup from the first HDD to the 2nd HDD, this creates a 'mirror' of the audio files which is a good thing. What is not a good thing is that this mirroring process (and other operating system housekeeping) might occur whilst you are streaming audio from the system, to ensure that nothing can interrupt the streaming follow this step by step guide.

It is possible to disable this 'house keeping' between the hours of 7am and 2am, allowing the house keeping to occur when the system is not streaming audio. To do so:

    1) Establish a remote desktop connection to the RipNAS (explained in the manual how to do this, open the Remote Desktop Connection as Administrator).

    2) Click on the 'e' Internet Explorer icon next to the Start button (bottom left of remote desktop screen). If any warnings appear you can close them.

    3) Type the address: www.dbpoweramp.com/install/WHSDemigrator.zip and press enter. There will be a warning about downloading a file which is not from a trusted site, click the 'Add' button (click Add Again, then Close). Click anywhere in the address bar (www.dbpoweramp.com/install/WHSDemigrator.zip) then press enter. Internet Explorer will now offer to save this file, select 'Save' and click on the 'Save in: My Documents' box at the top, and choose 'Sys ( C: )'. Click Save and the file WHSDemigrator.zip is saved to C:\

    4) Open explorer, select Start >> My Computer double click on Sys ( C: ), then right click on WHSDemigrator.zip >> Extract All >> Next >> Next >> Finish (the files have been extracted to C:\WHSDemigrator)

    5) Schedule the disabling of the WHS house keeping. Select Start >> Control Panel >> Scheduled Tasks >> Add Scheduled Task >> Next >> Browse (double click the folder WHSDemigrator in C:\ and choose DemigratorOff.bat >> Open). Perform This Task: Daily >> Next >> Start Time: 07:00 >> Next enter the username: RIPNAS\Administrator and type the Administrator password (it is printed on the bottom of the RipNAS) >> Next >> Finish.

    6) Schedule the enabling of the WHS house keeping. Select Start >> Control Panel >> Scheduled Tasks >> Add Scheduled Task >> Next >> Browse (double click the folder WHSDemigrator in C:\ and choose DemigratorOn.bat >> Open). Perform This Task: Daily >> Next >> Start Time: 02:00 >> Next enter the username: RIPNAS\Administrator and type the Administrator password (it is printed on the bottom of the RipNAS) >> Next >> Finish.

All done (almost...the house keeping is not due to be disabled until 7am next morning, to disable it straight away: Start >> Control Panel >> Scheduled Tasks >> (right click on DemigratorOff >> Run) ).

Also note that the WHS console will give a 'Network at Risk' warning, if opened it will state that the Drive Extender Mitigator Service is not running, which is to be expected as it is disabled.
