Flac to MP3 (lame) encoding algorithms

Hi,

When encoding to MP3 (lame) CBR320 what is the actual difference between three possible encoding algorithms apart encoding time?
(Algorithms in use are Slow, Normal and Fast)
Speed seems to roughly double from Slow to Fast but end result file size is the same.

The quality in Slow is higher than Normal and more than Fast, but not by a huge amount.
