    AMG/Musicbrainz metadata retrieval problem

    Hi,

We are using CD Ripper, and having problems retrieving metadata from AMG & Musicbrainz (freedb & GD3 work ok). Basically no metadata is retrieved from those sources, the CD Ripper screen goes blank white for about one minute, then returns with just the freedb/GD3 data. I've attached debug output below, but there is no indication of error in there.

From the fact that only AMG & Musicbrainz fail, and reading through some other threads, it would appear this is a problem with our configuration. However we need some assistance in tracking down where the problem lies so we can reconfigure.

The PC environment is: XP SP2, McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.5i, behind a corporate firewall & proxy.

    Any assistance would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

If you can try from not behind the corporate firewall & proxy, it would highlight it as the problem.

      Re: AMG/Musicbrainz metadata retrieval problem

It works fine when not behind the firewall/proxy, so that would seem to be the problem. (The AV software was still enabled when it worked on the non corporate connection, so that's not it)

What we need is some info on what ports or protocols etc are in use so we can unblock or trace. From other threads, I understand that it all uses port 80 (which is open and works for freedb/GD3).

So any info you can provide on what we should be looking for to work out why why AMG/Musicbrainz are failing would be much appreciated.

      Thanks.

        Re: AMG/Musicbrainz metadata retrieval problem

The data needs to pass untouched, even adding an extra header to the HTTP (as a proxy might) will stop amg from working...

Right, so is there any easy way to debug/dump what is coming out of CD Ripper so we can compare what is coming out of the proxy?

Or can you provide a generic sample of a standard request that is sent to AMG & Musicbrainz?

          Thanks.

You could use Wireshark out side the firewall, to capture the network packets, then use it within the firewall with the same disc.
