Ripping Speed slows down when C2 enabled

I have a brandnew Plextor PX-860A. Testing shows that it support C2 and FUA and no cache.

With C2 and FUA disable a disk takes approximately 6 min with all tracks ripped accurately.

With C2 and FUA enable the same disk takes around 13 min with all tracks accurate, too.

    Is that supposed to happen?

No, how does the drive connect to the system?

IDE directly to the mainboard. No other IDE device on that bus.

Try eac using c2 switched on, what is the speed like?

All done with the same disc:

dBPa, C2 on, FUA on: 13:20
dbPa, C2 off, FUA off: 5:30

          EAC, C2 on: 7:08
          EAC, C2 off: 10:30

          All tracks are ripped "accurate".

It would be nice if you also tried

            dBPa, C2 on, FUA off

From the data till now, I get the impression that c2 works, but FUA not.

C2 on and FUA off takes about the same as with both on.

Try the R13.3 beta (in the beta section of this forum), it has a new switch for lower message sizes when using c2, but normally only USB or firewire is effected by this).

It doesn't make a difference, > 13 min ripping time.

How many passes does it take when ripping?

I wonder if it's ping-ponging between READ CD and READ CD MSF (IIRC, my scsi logging showed you would autofail over to the other read command on errors).

Perhaps the C2 flag only works with one command and not the other on some Plextor drives?

If it fails onto a 2nd method the next call uses that method.

Hmm, perhaps another deeper layer of debug could be introduced that would trace the read calls and responses sans data. And perhaps another level with the data too (logged to a very very very large text file).
