    Lame 3.98??

    Hello.

I just got release 13 and I noticed that it is still coming with LAME 3.97. Isn't 3.98 the most current version? Is there a way to get 3.98 for dBpoweramp?

    Thanks.

It is in r13.1, currently in beta. See the download link below in my signature.

FYI -- I've tried to use the RaveWare binary for 3.98:

with the R13 CLI release 4 (yes, this time I read the dBpA helpfile

I get strange results/errors from dBMC. The lame.exe says it can handle pipes to filein, which seems fine if I use the simple CLI command line:
      -S -V -if - -of [outfile]
      (-S silent operation)
      (-V VBR, defaults to "4")

However, I get lots of strange behavior with other (valid?) lame command lines like:

      -S -V 4 -if - -of [outfile]
All I've added is explicitly using -V 4 (the default for 3.98), but I get
"Error converting to CLI Encoder, 'infile.mp3' to 'outfile.mp3'
Error writing audio data to StdIn Pipe [clEncoder::EncodeBlock]"
(If I generate the dBpA debug file, oddly, it mentions LAME 3.97 instead of 3.98)

      So i tried no pipe:
      -S -V 4 -if [infile] -of [outfile]
which generates the .wav file fine, but produces no .mp3 frames (a zero byte intermediate .mp3 file) but nonetheless writes the id3 tags to the final tagged .mp3 file -- but no errors recorded anywhere.

This produces particularly strange results if dBpA is overwriting an existing file, since it will overwrite the tags (update timestamp of final file) but NOT overwrite the mp3 frames (ie, it does not replace mp3 frames with the newly generated zero-byte intermediate .mp3 file).

      Meanwhile,
-S -V -if [infile] -of [outfile]
      again works file.

Is this the wrong way to pass lame.exe options through the CLI?? Something seems wrong with CLI - release 4 to me.

      Thanks!

If I remember correctly, LAME changed the way it handles stdin, which is handled correctly in dMC r13.1. I'm not sure why the CLI encoder isn't working with the LAME .exe, though.

          LAME 3.98.2 was recently released.

Can't wait for dbpoweramp 13.1 to include this latest update.

3.98.2 contains no changes which effect dBpoweramp.

              Hi folks,
I have spent hours searching for an answer with no success so thought I would ask here before I lose my mind!:vmad:
I have been trying to use the latest LAME release (3.98.2) with EAC without success. There is no .exe file in the LAME zip download and I don't know how to use .tar rz. Any help?

More to the point, why is there no .exe file in the new LAME release?

Thanks in advance for any help.

To access .tag rz files you need something like IZArc.

                  Try downloading from rarewares: http://www.rarewares.org/mp3-lame-bundle.php

The official LAME site never distributes binaries (.exe files), hence why you cannot find it.

                    Should we upgrade to 3.98.1?
