Re: Can't get WinGOGO codec to work

I appreciate all the suggestions, but I think for now I'll stick with GoGo until un-tweaked Lame catches up in terms of speedy conversion to good quality files. When that happens I'll look forward...

Re: Can't get WinGOGO codec to work

I do convert several hour-long files each week, and 12 five-minute files equals an hour, so it all adds up. :)

I guess the issue of speed is like asking why it's important to get any kind of...

Re: Can't get WinGOGO codec to work

My machine is a P4 2.40GHz, but even 3 minutes seems long compared with what I'm used to. If I could hear a difference (as is definitely the case with other fast codecs) I wouldn't mind the extra...

Re: Can't get WinGOGO codec to work

Well I just downloaded and tested the 3.97 beta.

An hour-long file takes more than 5 minutes to convert using dMC's default setting. The "Fast Standard" preset gets it done in about 4 minutes. ...

Re: Can't get WinGOGO codec to work

    Spoon,

Thanks very much for taking the time to reply.

Is 3.97 the versions currently integrated into dMC? If so, why the *huge* discrepancy between the speed I get with gogo? I can convert...

So what happens next? I'm new to this group. Does Spoon comment on stuff like this, or might a fix magically appear in v12? :smile2:

Re: Can't get WinGOGO codec to work

Oh! I see what you mean now. :o

Well, I just tried it with the command line you suggested, but it took several minutes to convert an hour file (vs. one minute with gogo's .dll and native gui.)...

Re: Can't get WinGOGO codec to work

It works fine with WinGoGo's GUI too, but I'm looking for the convenience of using dMC's right-click "Convert to" option and being able to use gogo with dMC's CD ripper.

Nope. :( Just tried it on an old W98SE machine.

Re: Can't get WinGOGO codec to work

    UPDATE:

I found a copy of the latest gogo.dll (v3.13) here: www.rarewares.org/mp3.html . Incredibly, it's even faster than the older versions ... it's able to create a 128-kbps stereo .mp3 of an...

Re: Can't get WinGOGO codec to work

    Bill,

The only link I know of is the one in message *20 (v2.39c.) I don't think the version I've been using for years (v2.351) is available anywhere anymore.

In the WinGoGO shell -> CPU...

Re: Can't get WinGOGO codec to work

I've tried substituting 2 gogo.dll files that I know work on my system (with the WinGoGo interface) but no luck. I was really hoping to be able to use dMC as a front end instead of the WinGoGo GUI...

Re: Can't get WinGOGO codec to work

    Hi Bill,

    Yes

No, a file is created with no content (0 file size)

I've only tried converting 16-bit stereo .wav files

    128, 44100, CBR, stereo

Re: Can't get WinGOGO codec to work

Oh, sorry ... I always thought that WinGoGo was a special optimization of Lame, not a completely separate codec. So I guess the only way to get that performance is with it's own interface? That's...

Re: Can't get WinGOGO codec to work

    Interesting! For a 1-hr file at 128kbps:

-q 9 takes about 0:55 but the quality sucks
-q 8 takes about 2:20 and the quality still isn't as good as WinGoGo at 1:30

I tried many of the presets...

Re: Can't get WinGOGO codec to work

I'm wondering the same thing. I'd really like to dump their clunky interface in favor of dMC, but I'm getting outstanding results in terms of speed and quality.

    If you're interested, I'll post...

Re: Can't get WinGOGO codec to work

Really?! So dMC is 4 to 5 times slower than WinGOGO? How can that be?

Re: Can't get WinGOGO codec to work

I would be delighted with that. Guess something is definitely wrong.

I did a comparison of dMC with the default Lame codec vs. WinGOGO with it's interface, converting a 1 hour, 16bit stereo .wav...

Re: Can't get WinGOGO codec to work

Then something else is causing the slowness. Any thoughts? Roughly how long should it take to convert a 16bit, 44.1 stereo .wav file to 128kbps stereo .mp3 on a P4-2.8 machine with 1GB RAM running...

Re: Can't get WinGOGO codec to work

I downloaded the codec from "codec-central" and used the dMC installer to install it. When that failed to work correctly, I tried subsituting my original gogo.dll but got the same results. (The two...

Can't get WinGOGO codec to work

I find that using the WinGOGO codec either produces a 0-length file or crashes dMC. Tried it on two different machines.

I've been using WinGOGO for years with its own interface and find it to be...
