You can obviously quickly change the Genre tag, if / when manufacturers realise / care about what has been happening for the last twenty years! Some players and apps are very good, some simply basic...
This is to my mind the reasons why the Genre tag is so personal wuth the nature of your collection being completely different to mine. You have (as usual) explained very eloquently why one size...
I also use Pop Rock as a jack of all trades folder. Of course i've also seen this as your Pop/Rock, Pop; Rock, Pop rock, pop rock, pop/rock, Pop/Rock, Pop / Rock etc! Part of my routine is to hit...
I also have deleted Style.
I have used Pop, Punk, EDM, Glam, Oldies, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s etc. mainly because my wife has so many compilations. I've also used Blues Rock, Country Rock, Folk Rock and...
I did put Ziggy Stardust: The Motion Picture as a David Bowie album, but it is a Bowie album.
My wife has hundreds of Compilation albums, so OST works very well in keeping soundtracks together....
Bingo Gary. Thank you for giving me such a powerful, yet easy to use single string which replicates my single and multi strings. I use Disc so:-
...
Thank you for the strings and I hope you get as much enjoyment from the coding as you have the coffee and jazz!
To be honest I've used the two strings for five years, so reducing them down to one...
Gary thank you. That is perfect for my friend's need and works exactly as described, I would like the same but putting each disc into their own folder for multis, please.
I'm sure I could work...
Hi Supernaut - yes I use OST for all soundtracks.
Yes, I do exactly as you've suggested, put a comment in square brackets (round brackets is for the title) if I have more than one mastering /...
Yes, that little number 1 (and not forgetting to clear it when required...) is very important!
It was because of The Graduate soundtrack which has several Dave Grusin tracks alongside the S&G ones...
By asking that "one last question" on the forum, the answer may help many others than the question asker too.
For me purely personal preference, instead of going into a folder named Various Artists, it goes into one named Compilations, nothing else is changed. I altered it when I was mucking around with...
I should have said some of us paupers! :)
The fact that you use UAPP, I would take as read that the app is very good.
And us paupers use it on Android too! :)
foobar2000 on your PC unsurprisingly works very well and is super flexible.
As you've found out there are very few standards for supported tags on some software and players, which partially...
Hi Supernaut,
A quick follow up to some of your questions and an explanation as to why I use Sort tags.
Back 40 years ago my LP collection was growing and it was taking longer to find a...
I started using Artist - Beatles, The and quickly decided I simply didn't like either Beatles, The or Beatles.
The band name is The Beatles.
I believe this is a very deliberate choice. There are folders A, B, C so Album Artist - Beatles, The / Bowie, David both go into the B folder, but the filename and Artist metadata read The Beatles /...
Hi Supernaut,
I totally agree with everything that Gary says above, but do use sort tags and some of the Genre tags that he no longer uses as they benefit me and my family.
We are all creating...
Mp3tag uses the upper case ARTIST SORT, even if you have used Artist Sort from dBpoweramp.
Congratulations on completing ripping your collection and maintaining those stats - very interesting. I haven't kept an accurate record of the odd error whilst ripping my CDs, but would be surprised...
It is worth cleaning them first as the ripping time may be reduced and occasionally smudges will cause errors.
Unfortunately there are no real standards for which tags should be supported and it is very common for otherwise extremely competent players to be limited by the software and apps.
Edit. Taking...
Couldn't agree more Gary, and as a language lazy Brit I regularly find non-native English speakers' command of the language (Dat Ei is definitely included :thumbup:) truly humbling.
