    Re: CD Import NEWB

Yes, with respect, you are not understanding. There is way, way more to lossless vs lossy than cutoffs. That's one of many modifications lossy codecs make to audio. Lossy codecs use psychoacoustic...
  2. Re: How many frame does it take to make a noticeable noise in the track?

all should be fine. My office computer rarely rips above about 15 or so. My home computer, with an external drive in a SATA enclosure, connected via USB to my laptop, can rip super fast 30-40 or...
  3. Re: Would you do anything different to rip SACD?

to emphasize, dbpa does not rip SACD. Almost nothing rips SACD without some hacking and maybe an old game console. Google ripping SACD. But most (all?) SACDs also contain a CD layer. So when you...

    Re: CD Import NEWB

Rip to lossless. That's the best you can do with any CD no matter what. Unless you have the ability to track down the band, force them to find the master tapes and remaster the album in the manner...

Re: What does it mean when it says "X AR"

Yes, if it has the same CRC, it is EXTREMELY likely it is a secure rip, i.e., the best you'll get.
  6. Re: How many frame does it take to make a noticeable noise in the track?

"too long" is relative. If there is no AR match, the program runs as long it needs to try and get a secure rip (matching CRCs on different passes). I think I set it to end after 1 hour. Why would...
  7. Re: Unable to rip new CD. Every track is showing as "Insecure".

of course, even though every track insecure, listen to the rip. It may sound perfectly OK. Insecure could mean a few frames are wrong. But a few frames being off wouldn't even be audible.
  8. Re: Unable to rip new CD. Every track is showing as "Insecure".

hard to say. they often didn't mention this on the CD itself. About what year was this CD released? Anyhow, if dbpa is working on most other disks, then it is definitely something odd about this CD....
  9. Re: Unable to rip new CD. Every track is showing as "Insecure".

is it a CD with "protection". I didn't think they were issuing many of these lately but in the late 90s/early 2000s, they issued lots of CDs that couldn't be easily ripped.

Re: What does it mean when it says "X AR"

means your CD didn't match the Accuraterip database. But this could be that your CD is a different pressing than the CD that's in the AR database (this happens). But when ripped via Secure, the...
  11. Re: Need advice before ripping collection to FLAC

happy to help. Experiment a bit with some ripping and then post any questions that come up....
  12. Re: Is it faster to rip everything in burst first and then pick the inaccurate tracks

No. Bad idea. Secure mode will first try with BURST, and if AR match will then stop with good rip. It only moves on to the additional SECURE steps when the first Burst rip doesn't match. So it's...
  13. Re: If you cancel a ripping session when it's not done yet, could that corrupt the fi

yes. Why not let it try to rip with secure no matter what. You're only ripping the CDs once. Might as well do it right. You can do other things while ripping. Rip right, rip once!!!
  14. Re: How many frame does it take to make a noticeable noise in the track?

40 frames should be fast. a couple of minutes maybe. And are you not setting all your rips to be secure ripping? That's the most efficient. Set for secure. It tries a burst rip (fast), then...
  15. Re: Need advice before ripping collection to FLAC

    1. I'd set to ultrasecure for ripping and leave it that way. The beauty is that if the CD is in the AccurateRip database, dbpa will do a burst rip, see that it matches the AR database entry, and...
  16. Re: If you edit the Artist name could it not appear on Accuraterip?

  17. Re: Sometimes the CD turns out all accurate despite some spots/smudges

Indeed. I haven't tried to calculate the probability, but the the odds of even 2 people having the *exact* same error on physically different CDs, ripped on physically different computers (because...
  18. Re: Sometimes the CD turns out all accurate despite some spots/smudges

    cleared now. thanks.
  19. Re: Sometimes the CD turns out all accurate despite some spots/smudges

To be clear, when Oggy mentions that smudges can cause errors, if you got an AccurateRip match on both rips, there are NO errors. CDs are pretty sturdy it turns out. On the other hand, I've seen...

    Re: Tracks cut off early

Unlikely to be the rips themselves (as I assume on most of these you had AccurateRip confirmation of bitperfect rips). As Spoon says, unless you used some less common DSPs during ripping (you would...
  21. Re: Default lossless level 5 compression vs lossless uncompressed

Not really sure how this came about. I think it is something from the old days. It's all about size and how hard it is to encode. So in olden times, harddisk space was super expensive, so making...
  22. Re: Default lossless level 5 compression vs lossless uncompressed

as Dat Ei notes, these are LOSSLESS files. Compression level is just a file size thing (and not even huge differences as you note). Zero effect on audio. (You may be mistaking a FLAC file for...
  23. Re: I think I made a mistake in going along with default track-naming order

Because some people like that (and some people don't organize their music by album (believe it or not). In my own case, I agree with you (I already know artist name and album name because of the...
  24. Re: How do you change the artist after the CD has been already ripped

are you using windows? Did you allow dbpa to create right click menus when you installed it? Instead of clicking on album folder name, open the folder and highlight all the individual tracks, and...

    Re: Problem with key disk

You should look at the top of this page. dbpoweramp, the forum you are on, is--in my opinion--a better ripper than EAC. Certainly more user friendly. And the dbpoweramp creator also created...
