Re: Problems with new CD Drive

One can buy a USB enclosure that allows you to install a SATA drive inside the enclosure and use it with USB connection. For example, I use this one (outdated now but something like it will be...

    Re: Error converting to FLAC

I wonder if you accidentally turned on DRM when you created those files with WMP. I don't use WMP, but I recall that there was an option to created "protected" files when ripping. If you did that,...

Re: Dbpoweramp vs exact audio copy

Best money I've spent related to my digital music hobby. It would be a bargain if it cost 5 times as much!

Re: Preserving Source Path and Filename:

You should remove your order number from this posting (edit it out). This would allow others to install using your account.
  6. Re: Need Naming String to Prevent "Unknown Artist"/No Metadata Rips from Overwriting

If both artist and album are unknown, I cant imagine any automatic solution. At least one of those items needs to have some info entered. You likely have to deal with those one at a time in some...
  7. Re: Need Naming String to Prevent "Unknown Artist"/No Metadata Rips from Overwriting

If both those items are unknown, it is not clear to me how dbpa would know to keep them separate. Looks like you are using a batch ripper. For these unknown CDs, I would do them manually and enter...
  8. Re: Need Naming String to Prevent "Unknown Artist"/No Metadata Rips from Overwriting

Do you have unknown album and unknown artist? Provide a specific example of a cd that causes this problem along with the metadata.
  9. Re: Ripped cds are of poor quality or hardly audible

No suggestions, but something is odd. The ripped FLACs should sound identical to the CD. There are settings in the HDCD that affect volume. As spoon says, rip without the HDCD DSP.
  10. Re: External CD Drive: Importance of flat surface during rip?

    Yes
  11. Re: External CD Drive: Importance of flat surface during rip?

    Yes
  12. Re: External CD Drive: Importance of flat surface during rip?

    1. Yes, that is all that matters
    2. Correct, AR all that matters. I have drives that are sitting at angles, propped partially on a magazine (not flat), etc. never has been an issue.

Re: Replaygain apply on pre-existing MP3 files

I use gain + peak. But this likely rarely matters as I do not have many tracks that would be peak limited. But I use this just in case.

Re: Replaygain apply on pre-existing MP3 files

    1. No
    2. If you use Replay Gain (Apply) this will cause the audio of the file to be changed irreversibly. As noted, this will rewrite the mp3 files to incorporate the volume normalization. This is...

Re: Replaygain apply on pre-existing MP3 files

Your ithings and itunes will not use replay gain tags. It will only use the SOUNDCHECK tags to adjust/normalize volumes. I recall that in iThings there is a setting for turning soundcheck on or off....

    Re: Replacing AccurateRip Files Quirk

Excellent. I've had some odd problems in the past with albums not being treated as the same (in my server software and in dbpa) and it was always a stray tag that was different for one or more tracks.

    Re: Replacing AccurateRip Files Quirk

Not sure, but make sure that the album level tags in all the tracks of the album are identical. Album name, discnumber, totaltracks, totaldiscs, comments, compilation (if ticked), etc. Easiest way...
