    Re: Genre / Style

Yes, not overdoing the genres is rational I think. It's easy to get too many.

    Re: Genre / Style

Depending on how you see it, symphonic rock could be included in progressive rock. In any case, the latter is a much wider term.

    Re: Genre / Style

Do you use Style as a subgenre? If so, it makes no sense to use "Rock" as style when you have "Progressive Rock" as the genre. It would be better the other way around.

    This comes down to...

    Re: Genre / Style

Easy Listening is what I use, didn't like it either from the start but have learned to accept it for lack of a better term.

For what it's worth, I tagged Carole King's "Tapestry" as Genre=Pop/Rock...

    Re: Set-Up for Ripping

There is no actual statement in the thread, but I gave an example which had "reversed names" for the composers - so I can understand why dbarnby raised the question. While it's not technically...

    Re: Set-Up for Ripping

Actually, I did in post 192. I may have added to the confusion, but I described what I saw in my testing of sort tags. You stated that my composersort listing was incorrect, and I can only assume...

    Re: Set-Up for Ripping

Not so when I laborated with sort tags on my portable (I don't use sort any longer).

You are probably right though that it should show up as you have written it.

    Seems my player didn't follow...

    Re: Set-Up for Ripping

garym & mville has already pointed you in the right direction, but here comes an additional angle.

If you only want to browse/search/play in one way, let's say "Gustav Mahler", then COMPOSER...

Thanks for the info. If this is true for all Qobuz downloads, and if crc check for the FLACs are ok, I guess for CD quality, it would be as safe or even better than a...

Re: The 49 Year Old Virgin!

Thanks garym. I haven't downloaded much lossless, but my impression so far is similar to what you say, that often you can't verify the downloads. So we just have to trust the vendors with integrity...

Re: The 49 Year Old Virgin!

I just want to add that it was not my intention to dismiss lossless downloads - if it so appeared. I'm just interested in the topics of their sources and their verification, if anyone knows anything...

Re: The 49 Year Old Virgin!

True. In this case if there's only one lossless option, should it be ALAC or WAV it's perfectly ok to convert it to FLAC.

But given a choice, FLAC is a better download option because you can...

Re: Tags, Tags, and more Tags ...

I think Jailhouse's idea is a great solution for you, since you want to tag unverified data. If you want to update/verify the tags later on, you can search for "Unknown" to have a list of candidates....

Re: Tags, Tags, and more Tags ...

That looks ok (but you are missing some studios which you probably are aware of).

Maybe replacing "or" with "??" for better readability?

Abbey Road Studios, London ?? Avatar Studios, New York...

Re: Tags, Tags, and more Tags ...

Every tag value has a place in the metadata, so you could say that there is the first placed composer and the second placed composer and so on. When listed, the could appear in that place order, or...

Re: Tags, Tags, and more Tags ...

No, I think it will be ok to search for e.g. Berkeley (if you can search within the VENUE tag in the software).

Re: Tags, Tags, and more Tags ...

I'm not sure you realize that if you tag like that in the software, it would be written like this in the metadata:

    TITLE=The Muse~Lose Yourself~The Wrestler~Happy~The Lion King
    COMPOSER=Elton...

Re: Tags, Tags, and more Tags ...

Maybe "Long Beach or Santa Monica or Berkeley or Phoenix" ?

Doesn't look cool but at least it contains all the info.

Re: Tags, Tags, and more Tags ...

I would write Unknown in the VENUE tag and write additional info in the COMMENT tag.

Or maybe, instead of Long Beach/Santa Monica/Berkeley/Phoenix you could use something wider, like USA.

    Re: Cloud Storage (help?)

Yes, and that was problematic during the years when I ripped a lot of CDs. Nowadays my ripping is sparse so I only top up once a year.

    Re: Cloud Storage (help?)

You have "decent" safety since you have the internal hdd + SD card + external hdd at home, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to have an additional remote backup. Cloud storage is probably safe if you...

    Re: Cloud Storage (help?)

OK, so the cloud storage would be an additional backup.

You could perhaps password protect the zip file to increase integrity? I don't know how vendors store the files, if they repackage even zip...

    Re: Cloud Storage (help?)

The only long-term solution you can trust is your own. There's little guarantees with online services. How do they protect the integrity of your files? Will they continue their service next year?...
