    Re: New forum style

Here's an example of a site that I find a lot easier to read:

    http://forum.xbmc.org/forumdisplay.php?f=93

I guess the icon usage there has never bothered me, because they're a lot smaller and...

    New forum style

Not a fan of the new pastel color scheme, which is difficult to read and hurts my eyes, but I simply cannot figure out what the icons mean. There are at least three distinct colors, gray, washed-out...

Re: Fix sample count in ALAC encoded files ?

I never noticed songs ending early, but I would always do the following anyway for good measure because I didn't like seeing "minor discrepancies" in foobar2000's verifier for my converted ALAC...

    Re: Verifying existing rips

Not according to your earlier post. As for your new claim about CueTools (I guess? You didn't specify the program you were talking about.) messing up your metadata, my money is on you being mistaken.

    Re: Verifying existing rips

FWIW, I just CueTool'd 10 rips I have that are listed under your "AccurateRip: disk not present in database, will not submit" header, and all 10 verified with AccurateRip with confidence ranging from...

    Re: Verifying existing rips

If you lack the .cue files created from the original discs, perhaps 10-20% of the rips won't verify with CueTools due to use of pre-gap but may still be accurate.

Re: WMP Changing ID Tags by itself?!

    1. Go into WMP and disable all options about downloading information from the Internet, adding missing information, adding files to the WMP library when played, etc. This should always be done.

    Re: Varying encoder speeds?

"One album's worth of files" isn't enough to perform a valid test. Try converting a few gigabytes of FLAC files to ALAC or vice versa. If the source and destination drives are the same conventional...

    Re: Varying encoder speeds?

I will guess the source and destination drives are the same, and in addition to the multiple outputs, you're using the multiple CPU feature. This creates an extreme I/O bound situation, and it...

Reduce *blooper* of CPUs during conversion

If dbpa isn't going to try to do this automatically, to deal with the situations when multi-CPU conversion degrades into a random disk I/O benchmark, please add a button to the conversion progress...
  11. Re: FLAC->ALAC; foobar says "Warning: Reported length is inaccurate"

I looked into this a little more, and dbpa converts its ALAC files with the wrong lengths and number of samples to WAV and FLAC with the right lengths and number of samples. Again, the decoded data...
  12. FLAC->ALAC; foobar says "Warning: Reported length is inaccurate"

Using foobar2000's "File Integrity Verifier" on two ALAC files converted from FLAC, one by dbpa and the other by Easy CD-DA Extractor, the results are:

    *****
    Item: "01 A Farewell To Kings.m4a"...

Re: Drag n Drop onto Music Converter

I asked the same thing a few months ago and got the same answer. You have to select a single "dummy" file in the file selector that appears when the program is started. This gets you to the converter...
  14. Re: ANy Suggested DSP for large FLAC-AAC Convert?

Is this a new feature in an unreleased version? If not, how do you get it to work? That is, I found converting FLAC<->ALAC to use all cores, and it really killed the performance with source and...

    Re: Verify AccurateRip after encoding

There are some albums for which CueTools needs a .cue file to check the Accurate Rip database. I found it works on most of mine that lack .cue files, but not all.

    Re: Archiving to ALAC

While not exactly the same thing, I recently converted several thousand FLAC files to ALAC using r14, and I used foobar2000's Binary Comparator to independently verify the conversion was accurate....
  17. Re: Multiple CPU -> Maximize Throughput (Music Converter)

Please re-read what I wrote about StupidFetch. I couldn't have been more clear, yet you have again managed to misinterpret what I said to imply I'm concerned about something as negligible as flac.exe...
  18. Re: Multiple CPU -> Maximize Throughput (Music Converter)

Please read what I wrote carefully and ask questions if you don't understand. I did not suggest improving this was "simple", and I did not suggest making "hardware assumptions". I was not suggesting...

Re: Folder right-click menu for Batch Converter

The thing is, I made my selection in Windows Explorer. If the context menu extension is going to appear when multiple folders are selected, that selection should define what it's going to operate on....
  20. Re: Multiple CPU -> Maximize Throughput (Music Converter)

You should try it with a large number of 200 MB files as I described.

I think that's a pretty safe bet. Be sure to let me know when I can buy a 2 TB SSD for $79. :)

NB: I have no idea what...
  21. Re: Multiple CPU -> Maximize Throughput (Music Converter)

It's actually what you would expect if there were multiple threads each trying to do independent I/O simultaneously to the same disk in an uncoordinated way. The "x-numbers" I quoted correspond...

  23. Multiple CPU -> Maximize Throughput (Music Converter)

I have a 4 core i5 750, and I'm finding the music converter's multiple CPU support to be a mixed bag when source and destination drives are the same (I didn't test different drives for source and...
  24. Re: Same song, 2 ripper, 2 very different spectral view !?

I mean, is there any way to view the command line that dpba is going to use? I don't see any button for that. Maybe Shift or Control-clicking the "Convert" or "Rip" button would present the command...
