Re: CD Ripper not ripping to FLAC Help!

Did you update to the latest version? There have been problems within the flac libraries.

Re: Batch convert from mp3 to FLAC Lossless

    Hey Floyd,

yes, you can. Because flac compression is lossless (like zip and other data compression algotrithms), you can convert back and forth between different compression levels without any...

Re: Batch convert from mp3 to FLAC Lossless

    Hey Floyd,

you're mixing up different kinds of compression. Flac compression is lossless, just a compression based on the data, the digital values. It's like zip compression - you can convert back...

    Re: Mqa

Aside the controversial discaussion about the sound quality, a MQA codec would have to be licensed from MQA Ltd. Do we need another lossy codec we have to pay for on top?

Where did you save your mp3 files during the conversion? Did you convert to a local drive?

  10. Re: New drive - have a few questions - please help!

As Spoon said before, dBpa on MacOS will only use the offset value in the online databse. So there is no need to fiddle around with that valu for you. If you get accurate rips, there is even no need...
  11. Re: New drive - have a few questions - please help!

A rip is accurate or not - that is like a black and white descision. There nothing in between.

Re: Higher sample offset = worse drive?

Maybe I understood the question in a different way than Gary. Maybe my limited english is the reason why.

If CD Ripper indicates an accurate rip, the rip is accurate and the offset and the drive...

Re: Higher sample offset = worse drive?

The offset is specific for a drive. AFAIK without the right offset for your drive you will not achieve an accurate rip (a different checksum).

  14. Re: CD-Ripper 16.6 Finds Metadata (Sometimes) and then (sometimes) discards it.

    Hey Dennis,

CD Ripper has to read the TOC of the CD before it can query the meatdata from the databases. The TOC (table of content) contains the number of tracks, their track length etc. Based...
  15. Re: CD-Ripper 16.6 Finds Metadata (Sometimes) and then (sometimes) discards it.

    @Spoon

Just a thought and question: if CD Text is available, what happens if the four online databases have no match for a new CD and respond very slow? Could the late response overwrite / clear...
  16. Re: CD-Ripper 16.6 Finds Metadata (Sometimes) and then (sometimes) discards it.

    Hey Dennis,

I don't know this effect and I rip to flac too. I can't even imagine why this effect can have anything to do with an encoder.

Do you have enabled CD Text as source for meta data by...

Finder is part of Apple's operating system, which can't handle (play or display album art) flac files. The operating system doesn't know anything special about those files - not that these are audio...

  22. Re: New Drive, Drive Clacking on certain tracks, inaccurate rips

Are the rips secure at least? Being not accurate could be a problem of missing database entries for those discs.

    Re: Rip 24 Bits 96Khz

Those CDs have been mastered with 24 bits and 96 kHz by the record company, but if those CDs are Audio CDs (Red Book Standard), the audio files are only 16bit with 44,1 kHz sample rate.
