  1. Re: MP3 rips are corrupt but FLAC and WAV have no problems?

    Thanks, Spoon.
There is no HDD. There is a fairly new SSD, and the NTFS journaling file system, and the drive monitor hardware, and they all say there's nothing wrong with the drive system. With...
  2. MP3 rips are corrupt but FLAC and WAV have no problems?

I hit an odd problem where an MP3 that I had ripped from a CD had skips and noise in it, pretty much as if I'd bumped a tone arm on a turntable but with silence gaps as well, not just all noise.
    ...
  3. Re: Can I batch-rename every song to begin with its track number?

I have routinely run multiple malware and a/v scans on my computers for years, including active background protection.

This failure, on just the data drive, would have been unlikely for malware....
  4. Re: Can I batch-rename every song to begin with its track number?

Yeah, the last two on my list were Seagate and WD. The last Seagate (Momentus 500GB) was DOA. As was the replacement and the second replacement and the fourth time around, after I had paid for...
  5. Re: Can I batch-rename every song to begin with its track number?

    Just a quick comment:
It turns out my WD drive had a catastrophic failure of some kind, hardware nothing related to the programs or the task. I'm just recovering from that, restoring the backups,...
  6. Re: Can I batch-rename every song to begin with its track number?

Sounds like the same learning curve I'm still (the bear went over the mountain, the bear went over the mountain, the bear went over the mountain, and what did he see? He saw another mountain...)...
  7. Re: Can I batch-rename every song to begin with its track number?

"whatever tracks are in the active window"
Oh, dangerous wizard then, unless I'm just trying to fix one album. Would have been handy when I was pushing my tapes through Audacity, but not needed so...
  8. Re: Can I batch-rename every song to begin with its track number?

    mville-
I'm beginning to think there's an "eater" on my computer, eating first my archive drive and now sometimes my message posts. (I know how to post messages!)
But one to you just disappeared...
  9. Re: Can I batch-rename every song to begin with its track number?

    Gary-
The testing was good, but the odd quirky stuff (like track 2/11) tends to pop up in one album, so the tests miss it. There's always another quirk to be found. Some of them, elude everyone I...
  10. Re: Can I batch-rename every song to begin with its track number?

    Gary-
Coming back to the original problem I was trying to fix, you gave a lead zero solution above. But if I want to make Real Damn Sure I'm not missing any steps, the whole process would be, using...
  11. Re: Can I batch-rename every song to begin with its track number?

As I said, multiple scans. Multiple tools. And all interactive technologies, including Flash, are normally (almost always in fact) disabled among the bowser's security settings. The likelihood of...
  12. Re: Can I batch-rename every song to begin with its track number?

Yes, it could all be coincidental mechanical failure. The drive is a WD Black Label (good drives) that has never hiccupped. The drive monitoring systems have thrown no error codes--ever. As long as a...
  13. Re: Can I batch-rename every song to begin with its track number?

I can't say anything actually "crashed" the computer, Windows and the primary drive are just fine. The physical D: drive, which is a data drive that co-incidentally carries the original music files,...
  14. Re: Can I batch-rename every song to begin with its track number?

Later still (too late for an edit?):
Not so good. The car wants to see "01" "02" etc for the tracks. When there is no leading zero, it "alphabetizes" the DOS 1.0 way, that is 1, 10, 11, 12,...
  15. Re: Can I batch-rename every song to begin with its track number?

    mv-
I wasn't talking about MP3TAG changing the directory structure, but rather, when dbpa and the option ran, they require a "target" directory for each operation. You can't just say "stay here and...
  16. Re: Can I batch-rename every song to begin with its track number?

    gary-
Good metadata, ROFL. I'd be happy if they would just break the tracks where the tracks actually break, i.e. in between sets on live concert cd's, rather than a couple of seconds into the...
  17. Re: Can I batch-rename every song to begin with its track number?

Ah, thanks. It tool me three tries to notice the "FILTERS" window at the bottom, rather than a top-level tool or option from the menus. And I while longer to find the help for filters...which will...
  18. Re: Can I batch-rename every song to begin with its track number?

Well, not being a football fan, I took some time to try running the batch conversion today. First I ran it against just one folder, one artist, one album. Success!

So I set it loose on 14,000 and...

Re: WMA Lossless Errors with Windows 10

Any chance that there are DRM (digital copyright management) restrictions in the way? Under NT6, I had the computer swearing it couldn't copy video files because of insufficient DRM rights. When I...

    Re: FLAC Files Mixer/Randomizer

    Tom-
"I could not download and save the randomized playlist in the randomized order."
If I understand playlists correctly, that is absolutely correct and it is the way they will always work, on...
  22. Re: Can I batch-rename every song to begin with its track number?

"I suspect your car is not using tags at all, but instead using FILE NAMES.
Oh, I can tell you that for certain. Which is why I asked about renaming the files--not changing the tags.

    The...
  23. Re: Can I batch-rename every song to begin with its track number?

I did look at MP3tag, but I don't see any clear way to do the batch renaming the way I want to, i.e. a list of parameters or way to specify syntax like "Track*""TitleName" etc.
    Could be I'm...

Re: Mp3 quality and used DSPs

I'd go one step further and say that for "simple" playback, especially for older ears, just convert to mp3 using the VBR-2 quality selection and you'll never notice the difference. It is very...

Re: WMA Lossless Errors with Windows 10

Odd thought, forgive my ignorance, but CAN the wma format support a 24-bit file from PONO?
I had thought the wma format was "capped" at traditional 16-bit format as a standard, or perhaps that's...
