Registered users
Installing a beta/trial version on top of a registered install retains the registered status.
QNAP TS-231P black images bug info
To make the bug go away, do a "rescan all" cycle to purge image cache.
Synology configuration data location
Due to an error on my end, upgrading beta 3 to newer eats the configuration. You can copy it to the new location prior to update manually - the proper location is now /volume1/AssetUPnP-Data ( contains usual .dBpoweramp folder ), old location was symlinked from /var/packages/Asset/etc . Replace /volume1 with another volume if installed in a non default location.
This is a one-time bug. Beta 3 deletes configuration prior to upgrade thinking that it's being uninstalled. This will not occur again with future updates.
LG TV workarounds
If you use non default control point overrides, your settings will not be altered with beta 14 LG fixes.
In order to add LG TV fix, add these lines to your control point overrides:
=WebOS
[SimpleBrowse]
Re: Asset R6.2 for Mac / Linux
The new ARMv7 version is faster when rescanning the complete library. Nice work Peter!
-
Re: Asset R6.2 for Mac / Linux
Also no errors to report of the ARMv7 version on a RPi2.
However, have not undertaken a complete rescan for a while, so can't comment on the feedback from @psweetie.
Thanks,
Simon.

Beta 3, now with more Synology.

Re: Asset R6.2 for Mac / Linux
Beta 3, now with more Synology.
Nice development to see official Synology support. Couple of questions:
1) is this just for intel Synology boxes? Just installed the .spk file on my 416play (intel, runs fine) and my 214 (Marvell Armada, installed, but does not open). The Pi version of Asset does work on the 214. If there are restrictions could this be clarified.
2) will it be possible for customers who have purchased a registered linux-x64 version for installation via a terminal window to get a licensed .spk version without further charge? My .spk version reports itself as unregistered, though I have previously installed the registered linux-x64 for version 6. Possibly updating DSM to 6.2 wiped that out, have not been running Asset for a while.
thanks.

Re: Asset R6.2 for Mac / Linux
Registered users -
If you locate the .dBpoweramp folder containing configuration data of your old install and transfer it to where the Synology package stores its config, the registered status will transfer along with the rest of the data.
On my unit, the new location of Asset data is: /usr/syno/etc/packages/Asset
If it's not there, try this:
readlink /var/packages/Asset/etc
CPU architectures -
Interestingly, my own unit - DS128j - is an ARM device and it works there. There are binaries for Intel 32bit / 64bit, ARM v6, v7 and 64-bit. The correct binary is installed automatically depending on detected CPU type.
I'd like to know the output of uname -m on the problematic machine.
-
Re: Asset R6.2 for Mac / Linux
I was able to transfer the registration on my 416, thanks for that. However, at the top of the Asset page, there is a box with the following, which I've never seen before:
Internal error, details below:
WARNING: Profile folder has only 915083264 bytes of free space, which may not be sufficient for album art cache. Music indexing may fail.
Couple more observations:
1) both my Synology boxes are on DSM 6.2. In the Package Center, at the overview level showing all packages, a generic icon is shown for Asset. When I click on the icon to view the package details, then I get the proper Asset icon. Other third-party packages have their proper icon in the overview page as well.
2) on the 214, everything in fact indicates that Asset is running, except that the url for the config page will not load, and my control point (iOS Kazoo) can't see a media server running on the 214 but it can on the 416. the uname -m output is armv71
-
Re: Asset R6.2 for Mac / Linux
one more potentially relevant observation: in Package Center on the 416, when I click on the drop-down arrow next to "Open", the options are Stop or Uninstall. On the 214 the only option I have is Uninstall, suggesting something is not right?
Sorry, please disregard, it's late and I'd already stopped it. Doh! Still does not work on the 214 even when status is Running.

Re: Asset R6.2 for Mac / Linux
Regarding this
at the top of the Asset page, there is a box with the following, which I've never seen before:
Internal error, details below:
WARNING: Profile folder has only 915083264 bytes of free space, which may not be sufficient for album art cache. Music indexing may fail.
I deleted the uMediaLibrary file re-started Asset and the warning was gone, I let it do a full re-scan, then stopped/started Asset, and the warning came back.

Re: Asset R6.2 for Mac / Linux
HI Peter
Just been trying the Synology (RPi) build and it works v nicely. Much easier with the package install and once one has worked out where all the working directories are! I do have a problem though. I copied over the .dBpoweramp directory contents as you suggested and it does now show registered. However, I know seem to have a clash in my control point with an instance on the Rpi replacing an instance on the Synology rather than showing up as a separate instance. If I disable the instance on the Rpi the Synology version appears again. I have tried calling the instances separate things but that doesn't work. I also have a second Rpi configured as a backup and with that and the first RPi they show all instances correctly. I wonder is it the Asset-ID at fault as it was copied over from the first RPi to the Synology?

Re: Asset R6.2 for Mac / Linux
Re DS 214,
The CPU is certainly not the issue, we detect armv7l (in fact it's the same as in my test unit) and run the exact same Asset binary in the Raspberry Pi package. The problem is being investigated.
Re reported disk space issues,
Noted. I'm probably not storing potentially-large Asset album art cache data where I'm supposed to.
Re imported config and two Assets seen as one
You are right, you need to delete the Asset-ID file; it will be re-created on the next run with a fresh unique ID.

Re: Asset R6.2 for Mac / Linux
Beta 4 posted.
See the notice about configuration data in the first post before installing.
The out-of-space problem has been addressed.

Re: Asset R6.2 for Mac / Linux
Managed to install beta 4 on the 416 though at first got a port conflict message blocking the install, this was cleared on a re-boot. The out-of-space warnings should be resolved now.
Installed beta 4 on my 214 and while installation appears to complete, Package Center permanently shows the status as stopped. Here is the output requested:
drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4.0K Jul 27 15:52 .
drwxr-xr-x 13 root root 4.0K Jul 27 15:45 ..

Re: Asset R6.2 for Mac / Linux
did an uninstall and reinstall and the issue went away, copying all .dBpoweramp directory prob not sensible!

Re: Asset R6.2 for Mac / Linux
I do have a weird problem with the Synology beta4, not sure if I had it with earlier version. I have two RPi's running asset and when one or both of them are running and I load up the Synology Asset server I see all the instances as I should. If I stop the Synology server I see the RPi servers still and everything is fine. However, if I just leave the Synology server on the renderers lose any site of a UPnP server and I can't play music. I can see the web GUI and restart Asset etc. but nothing makes the server appear. As soon as the RPI server(s) are brought online and the renderers reset the Synology instances appear again? Bottom line is that I can'y just have Synology version running by its self? Thoughts?

Thanks for the reply. It seems as if it installed correctly...
Can you please try starting Asset manually:
/var/packages/Asset/target/bin/AssetUPnP
Post any output / error messages that it shows. If the AssetUPnP binary is not there at all, please post output of:
ls -lah /volume1/@appstore/Asset
Philip
Unfortunately UPnP discovery is unreliable technology (UDP multicast, no recovery from packet loss), I have to admit that it is acting quite random on my own home setup. Rebooting the router could perhaps help.
Or perhaps the control point app gets confused, maybe resetting its configuration (uninstall/reinstall cycle?) could help.

I also just dowloaded the Raspberry Pi 6.1 file and that runs fine on the 214.
-
Re: Asset R6.2 for Mac / Linux
Thanks for the details. All makes sense now, I redid the build tools for Asset 6.2 and the lowest supported kernel was 3.2.87. I will redo this with older kernel support for beta 5.
EDIT: Corrected kernel version after checking exact config files.
Apparently 3.2.87 is the oldest supported by current crosstool-ng. I'll fall back to older crosstool-ng, which I used before with old Asset versions.
-
Re: Asset R6.2 for Mac / Linux
Thanks, my interest here is out of curiosity in case this can help other users, as the 416 is my main unit. Its kernel version is 3.10.105.

Re: Asset R6.2 for Mac / Linux
I did post something in the Synology thread but better off in here. There seemed to be a problem on my home network where the Synology version of the server only worked if one or both of my RPI servers are also present. If they were both off the Synology did not seem to advertise. I tried resetting routers, switches etc and still the same. My NAS has DDNS enabled and the Asset GUI (if you press the open button from package manager) also is referenced by the DDNS name. If you also open port 1900 UDP and direct it to the NAS that is the port on which the DLNA advertises things and opening it let mine run. It may yet not work of course but it seems to have solved things in the short term!

Philip
Problem noted, we should not be ever referenced by a DDNS name, I will look into this.
Still, I have no idea how other instances of Asset may possibly affect discoverability of one another, unless the controlpoint is doing something crazy or the unique identifiers clash.
-
Re: Asset R6.2 for Mac / Linux
If the synology is referenced using DDNS (and a lot of people will use it that way) then when you select open asset from the package centre, it just continues to use the ddns reference. As I said opening the DLNA port resolves the issue so that seems to be a firewall config problem. I can confirm that the three separate asset installations are all done from scratch and have all set their own ASSET_ID, so there should be no clash. Obviously with the port 1900 open the synology asset server broadcasts correctly and issue has gone away. Maybe the other servers were initiating a discovery service and enabling the synology server to be found?
Beta 5 out.
Old Linux kernel compatibility has been addressed.

I can confirm the .spk build now runs on the 214. Nice to have Synology support, my hacked installs usually needed patching after a DSM update, good to have an official version, much less hassle.

Re: Asset R6.2 for Mac / Linux
Thank you so much Peter for this fantastic work!
Your package is working flawless on my DS218+ .
For registered users doing a completely fresh install (no old ".dBpoweramp" folder left) like i did: take the "AssetReg.bin" file from the original downloaded registered package and copy it to the new located ".dBpoweramp" folder in "/volume1/AssetUPnP-Data", thats it.
cheers

DS214 iPad w iOS 11.4.1
Very happy to report easy install & 1 week of 100% trouble free operation & learning curve
When can we expect the next beta & any indication on how far away is the release candidate

Re: Asset R6.2 for Mac / Linux
Is it possible to change the database architecture such that changing the setting for handling multi-disc albums does not lead to a complete library re-scan?
-
Re: Asset R6.2 for Mac / Linux
No, as these values are stored when scanned.
-
Re: Asset R6.2 for Mac / Linux
Couple more remarks/questions if I may:
What functionality is there with Asset for customising Album sort order when viewing by Artist? It seems to be alphabetical by default, it would be nice to be able to sort on Date instead. Is there an option for that?
User renaming of tags: this feature works but seems to require a full library re-scan? There is nothing on the tag editing page to tell the user this is required. When I click Apply, the changes are not immediately effective. I figured a full re-scan might be needed and it worked. Adding a note to this effect could be useful for new users.

Re: Asset R6.2 for Mac / Linux
DS214 .......... iPad 11.4.1 .......... Naim app .......... Naim NDX
Had a problem last evening. App would not 'discover' Asset.
Synology refused to awake from hibernation from app. I started Synology via laptop, the app still did not open Asset.
Reset the app & no change, deleted & reinstalled the app & still no change.
Rebooted NDX, restarted Asset, still no change.
Reinstalled Synology UPnP 'Media Server', that worked OK.
Meanwhile I've uninstalled Asset UPnP ........... any ideas &/or further instructions.
-
Re: Asset R6.2 for Mac / Linux
See post above ........ No reply from Illustrate. OK I'll do something on my own. I re-installed Beta-7. It loaded OK & it showed on the app & would open OK. Problem was the UI link was not showing on the Synology installed screen so not able to fine tune my preferences, I tried various things to get to show including another delete & install.
Bottom line is I'm jumping ship back to Synology's Media Server, its a shame as I really do like it (when its working). But until Illustrate get involved, plus I'm travelling for a while, maybe better if I hold on for the official public release

Re: Asset R6.2 for Mac / Linux
I'm also testing the Synology package and have beta 7 installed. A couple of comments:
- After installing, Asset displays In the Package Center with the default Package Center logo rather than the Asset logo.
- If you click to see the Asset package page, the correct Asset logo is displayed. However there is something odd going on with the "URL" link which points to the Asset config page. This flashes on and off -- that is, it appears for a while, then disappears. This is why Mike-B above was having trouble navigating to the config page.
Otherwise, all seems to be working well here on a Synology DS412+ (Intel Cedarview).

I've had the exact same experience. Not an issue if you have the URL bookmarked, but for a new user it could be off-putting, would be good to fix.

Re: Asset R6.2 for Mac / Linux
I fully support that; It would really great to have the Albums shown in the order of their Publishing date. Is there any Chance to do this with the tree Settings?

You can edit the tree and replace the 'album' entry under artist with 'album by release'

thanks. That's helpful. Further customisation on sort order would be nice but useful to know there is some coverage on this.
