How Do I Extract artwork from flac flie?
Can I extract the cover artwork from a flac file? One of my own beautifully scanned Folder.jpg files got overwritten by a crappy internet cover scan when I was scanning CD-2 of a set. I'd like to get my much nicer file back from within my flac files if I can so I use it instead of the low res internet version dbpoweramp found for me. I know how to add the artwork to a flac file but I don't see how to extract it back out.
Re: How Do I Extract artwork from flac flie?
Install the Utility Codec [ID Tag Update] and covert to ID Tag update with only the Export Folder.jpg option set.

A little more info for anyone extracting album art with dbPoweramp:
Start Batch Converter
Choose some files or folders
Click "Convert"
In the dialog box Choose
Encoding: ID Tag Update
Then to tab "Manipulation" and scroll down to "Album art" and choose "Export to" to be "Folder.jpg" or whatever option you want.
Click "Convert" down to the right and it should extract album arts for all selected files or folders.

How can I export all artwork from a FLAC? This method only extracts the first embedded image. I am trying to grab front and back covers, sleeves, etc.
Re: How Do I Extract artwork from flac flie?
It is not possible sorry.
Re: How Do I Extract artwork from flac flie?
If you want to do it across a batch of files you can use Actions in Mp3tag to achieve this ('Export cover to file'), although it looks like you'd need to setup one action per artwork type (Front, CD, Artist, Back e.t.c.) just so that you can name them correctly. You can have multiple Actions per Action group though so you'll only need to run it once.
The only other way I can think of achieving this is by scripting metaflac.
This lists all the artwork types in a file
$ metaflac --list --block-type=PICTURE 01.01.flac | grep -A5 -i metadata
METADATA block *3
type: 6 (PICTURE)
is last: false
length: 162685
type: 3 (Cover (front))
MIME type: image/jpeg
--
METADATA block *4
type: 6 (PICTURE)
is last: false
length: 148453
type: 4 (Cover (back))
MIME type: image/jpeg
--
METADATA block *5
type: 6 (PICTURE)
is last: false
length: 77788
type: 8 (Artist/performer)
MIME type: image/jpeg
--
METADATA block *6
type: 6 (PICTURE)
is last: true
length: 159205
type: 6 (Media (e.g. label side of CD))
MIME type: image/jpeg
I'm trying to convert my ALAC files to FLAC while keeping/transferring album art. After starting Batch Converter and choosing an album/folder, I don't see anything marked "Dialog Box" or any of the subsequent options described above; I do see the DSP effects to which I added Folder.jpeg Preserve, but it doesn't seem to work for my particulars -- I must be doing something wrong and if you could point in me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.
Re: How Do I Extract artwork from flac flie?
First check your ALAC files contains album art, right click on one and Edit ID Tags. If it does not show then the album art is kept in iTunes and not the files.
dBpoweramp by default will transfer the album art from one file to another.
